Astor York Hostel

Showers had great water pressure, easy temperature control and water got nice and hot. Beds warm and comfortable, room didn’t get too cold, spacious storage under beds, well equiped kitchen, nice outdoor seating, laundry easy enough to use, very friendly and helpful staff, bus stop right outside and small convenience store around the corner.

A bit of a walk into town, not the end of the world though. Washing machine claimed the cycle would take 35 minutes, took over an hour, so guests be aware of that. Cages under beds very squeaky and loud, could use some oil or something, as it was disruptive when they were pulled out overnight. Pillows were a little on the thin side. Someone’s boxers were left in the bathroom the entire 3 nights I stayed there - was unsure what to do about that lol. The showers also could do with a door or shower curtain, the ones in the room I stayed in were just open to the rest of the bathroom (ensuite style, so the door can be locked), meaning the floor got very wet and if you’re not careful everything will get splashed.

A really great Hostal. I have stayed in many around the world. Excellent dorms, comfortable mattresses, good shower and really pleasant rooms to socialise, with a huge kitchen and self service breakfast. Great Valley for money

Very well kitted kitchen! Crazy value breakfast, I had to have it even just for the real coffee! Beds not excessively creaking, I was surprised! I very much liked the drawers for each bunk!! Plenty USB chargers. Plenty of lounge space, comfortable and welcoming. Sufficient shared bathrooms, so no queues. I was able to park on the premises for £5 per day

There was nothing negative about the hostel, except slightly loud music in reception / lounge areas most time of the day. And the universal issue with people sharing a bedroom space - the different agendas at unreasonable hours or being quite clunky, snoring really loudly... part and parcel of being in a hostel

Staff were accomodating when I asked for extra blanket. Bed was decent enough and room had decent light. The common areas were beautiful for reading or doing work.

Bathrooms were pretty grim and had poor lighting. Pillow was flat as a pancake. No privacy curtains on beds. For the girlies, no outlet near a mirror to do hair. This is an easy fix and would markedly improve the room experience given the lack of bathroom outlets in the UK. Also, hostel was a solid 15 min walk to town.
