Worried the beds would be wobbly and noisy but nice and sturdy, comfortable beds. No noise apart from friends snoring in our room. Also the staff seemed to be helping a homeless guy deal with his washing and getting a hot drink and some food which was nice to see. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Maybe continental breakfast could be a little better but the cooked breakfast was great.

Great bar and staff, the communal area was great and kids loved the garden .
The communal toilets were not the cleanest, and the kitchen had great potential but needs some tlc with one of the three cooking countertops not working. The pillows and mattresses were quite uncomfortable but next time we will bring our own pillows .

Fantastic location and the staff were very welcoming. This is a historic building, the Rowntree family home. Stunning location close to the towpath walk of less than a mile into town. The staff had no knowledge of the history of the place which was a little disappointing.
The food looked good although we didn't try it.
Booking in and checking out was easy and very pleasant.
There were 2 small toilets and 2 small showers between 4 dorms, minimum of 16 guests.
There were no hooks in the toilet, to place your bag on.
The showers consisted of the shower tray and that's it, no hooks, nowhere to put a towel or clean clothes except on the floor. Not surprisingly they got wet as there is also no shower curtain. Nowhere to put shampoo etc either, literally nothing but a shower.
In my dorm there were 4 beds and 4 hooks. 1 small cupboard with 2 spaces, 1 could be locked and the other was open, both areas had been claimed when I arrived, all my stuff had to be left on the floor.
There are no privacy curtains, which i guess is for health and safety but I have stayed in multiple hostels with curtains worldwide, it makes a huge difference when someone wants to stay up until 1am doom scrolling.
And of course, the obligatory fire alarm going off at 4.30am is always fun ?
