My second time here as I love the ambience of the old-style building. It’s cosy and friendly where you can meet others in the very pleasant kitchen and dining area for breakfast. The host John is very welcoming. The residence is also a short walk to the lively waterfront area.

It was conveniently located near my destination for the next day. The kitchen facilities were okay, though the continental breakfast options were a bit limited. I wasn’t sure whether breakfast was included because I’d paid extra or if it was available to all guests, and clearer information would have helped. The same goes for knowing what food in the fridge was accessible for guests. The cookies and fruit were fresh and appetising, with instant tea and coffee. Brewed coffee available in the early mornings, only. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean, which I appreciated.
Overall, I’ve realised B&Bs might not be the best fit for me—I prefer the space and anonymity of a larger hotel.
The single room itself was quite narrow with more furniture than needed, so felt crowded and a bit claustrophobic for me. Being right on the corner of two busy roads, the car noise was noticeable. There was no airflow, and I couldn’t see a designated outdoor area, which I did look for, hoping there was an accessible garden to or balcony. A large room fan provided appreciated. While the heritage building held some charm, the inside spaces are laden with dark furniture, and lots of it. It is a fair walk from shops and restaurants, so stay here if it suits your budget, but don't expect to be in the main buzz of town.
