Hotel La Scaletta al Ponte Vecchio

The location of the hotel could not be better - easy walk across the Ponte Vecchio and into main part of the city. Just far enough from the crowd on the bridge but very close to the river. Florence is beautiful and so interesting. Street artists (painters) along the routes - and there are players in squares and piazzas every evening from folk singers to violinists to opera singers entertaining diners in many of the cafe/bars and restaurants all over town. Far better than Rome and yes I would go again for sure.

Only having three days there - not long enough. But we did spend the rest of the holiday with family members from other parts of the world in an old Italian farmhouse/villa in the Val D’Orcia (five bedrooms and swimming pool). So it was a two-part trip that ended in Florence. Did not take the hire car into Florence as the traffic/parking is a bit mad - dropped that off at the airport and took the T2 Tram right into the centre (25 mins and only a few euros). Very short taxi ride to the hotel from the tram stop at Santa Maria Novella station.

Great customer service, good location, clean and spacious.

Furniture was uncomfortable and the bed was too firm.

good sized room. Had a kettle to enable us to make hot drinks. The bathroom was a decent size. A nice quiet room. Fairly central for the Duomo etc.

The lift was rather compact, so a little claustrophobic. The toilet base leaked.
