About this apartment rental
Dog friendly Pismo Beach is a 7-minute walk from here. You can walk along the shoreline from here about a mile to Pismo Beach Pier. Walk down North 2nd one block, turn Right on Ocean View for two blocks. Cross the RR tracks and street to the green “Butterfly Grove” sign. Walk through to the railing path across the footbridge to campground, turn Left and follow the path out. (If you want to drive to this access, drive south on 4th St, turn Right on W. Grand Ave, turn Right on Pacific Coast Highway, park on side of road near the “Butterfly Grove” sign.)
Driving along the shoreline. Pismo Beach is the only beach known that you can drive your vehicle by the waves! Head south on 4th Street (away from freeway), turn Right on West Grand (main artery), and head straight out to the beach. At the end of the road you’ll come to a Park Ranger booth, and the attendant will tell you how to prepare your truck or jeep for driving on the beach. A fun place to have lunch is Fin’s Bar and Grill, located adjacent to the booth.
ATV rental. Dune buggies ride on Oceano Dunes. Although closed until the end of May, they will be allowed on the beach for the summer. Sun Buggy is at 307 Pier Avenue in Oceano. Drive South on Hwy 1 for 2.1 miles toward Oceano, turn Right on Pier Avenue and it’s at the end on the right. If full, there are several other ATV rental stores on that street – BJ’s is one. A shuttle will take you out to the ATV’s on the beach.
Bicycle rental. You can ride them on the beach. Pedal-Up Bikes at 519 Cypress St, Pismo Beach, has a large collection of bikes and trikes. Pismo Beach Bike Rentals at 160 Hinds Avenue, has a variety of equipment: bikes, kayaks, surfboards. Both are 1 mile from here in Pismo Beach. There are many others too.
Game arcade in downtown Pismo Beach. The old movie theater on Pomeroy Street is now Family Entertainment Center. There is also a Bowling Alley at the corner of Pomeroy and Cypress. Ice cream shops everywhere! Splash Cafe serves clam chowder.
Bob Jones Trail. Great trail! About a 4-mile round-trip walk to the ocean in Avila Beach. A good place to access the trail is from Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. (See below.) Walk over the footbridge and you’re on your way.
SeaVenture Beach Hotel. Don’t miss a great outdoor patio lunch – or just a drink – at this jewel of a place on the third floor. You’ll have full view of the ocean and beach activities. From here you can walk a half mile up the beach on the shoreline and access this large and obvious green-roofed structure from the beach side. Or drive to 100 Ocean View Ave, Pismo Beach. Plenty of parking available.
Avila Valley Barn. A great place for the whole family. 560 Avila Beach Drive, San Luis Obispo. An 11-minute drive from here. Avilavalleybarn.com
Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. Rent a hot tub experience in a beautiful location. 1215 Avila Beach Drive, San Luis Obispo. Open 24 hours. 805-595-7302.
Fine dining: We recommend Giuseppe’s on Price Street, Pismo Beach. It doesn’t take reservations and is very popular, so there is a lively bar scene for diners who are waiting for their table. Another favorite is Ventana Grill, with a sweeping view of the ocean, as it sits right on the cliff. They take reservations and it also has a bar/waiting area. Located 2 miles north on Pacific Coast Highway in Pismo Beach. We also enjoy lunch overlooking the beach at Sea Venture Hotel, 100 Ocean View Avenue, in downtown Pismo Beach.
Family evening entertainment: The Great American Melodrama& Vaudeville. “Intimate theater with a variety of shows plus an in-house pub with beer, wine, and snacks for purchase...Fun for all ages, producing top-notch musicals, comedies, and melodramas.” Located at 1863 Front Street, Oceano. 805-489-2499. americanmelodrama.com.
