About this cottage rental
Houghton Farmhouse is a 7 bedroom, 4 bathroom period farmhouse that can comfortably sleep 18. There is a choice of 2 large receptions, including dining room for 18 and smart TV room. The gardens are extensive and include a separate games room.
The house has been furnished to a modern and extremely comfortable standard with all imaginable conveniences; a fully stocked kitchen to enable your culinary juices to flow free, be it for a quick snack for all or that 5 course banquet for 18 people to celebrate the special occasion.
Houghton Farmhouse is ideal for family gatherings; to celebrate that wedding anniversary, special birthday, or simply to get friends and family together under one roof.
The garden is c. 1 acre in size and very private. We have converted one of the period barns into a games room, to include table tennis, pool, darts and numerous games etc.
The kitchen benefits from a walk-in larder and separate utility room, with washing machine, dishwasher and separate large fridges & freezer.
The lounge has soft seating for 18 with an open fire-place (logs can be provided for a fee). There is a wall mounted Sony Smart TV, with surround sound cinema system, connected to the internet and with a library of films for those rainy/lazy days in. If you have your own lovefilm or similar account, you can access them via this TV setup.
We have recently installed a heated swimming pool, with enclosure for all year around swimming.
Wheelchair access is not perfect. The house is very old, and built in several stages. There are therefore slight steps to accommodate different ground floor levels. This is normal for houses of this age and standard. However, these small variances in floor levels makes wheelchair access awkward, but not impossible. Some doors are wide enough to allow access.
Please note that the broadband in the house is provided by a third-party supplier. We cannot be held responsible if the service dips or stops working for any reason outside of our control. Of course, we will endeavour to remedy the situation as promptly as we can, but as you will appreciate, we are reliant on the third party.

We had a lovely 60th birthday celebration here. Nice big garden and very well equipped for dealing with big groups.

I stayed for a three night long weekend with 6 other women, we have rented weekend accommodation once a year for many years in Norfolk and Suffolk. It is the first time I have felt the need to air a few grumbles! We paid a premium price for what we understood to be premium accommodation. I had a double downstairs bedroom, one of the window panes was cracked from top to bottom in a couple of places and had obviously been there some time as the plastic cover (intended to keep out the drafts?) was painted into the frame. My friend also had a downstairs room and some of the curtain hooks had been broken leaving the curtain half hanging off the pole. On our first night we found the seven dinner plates we went to use had old encrusted food left on them, in fact we could see what the previous people had eaten!
The living room lighting was just not up to par, the only side light had no bulb and the alternative was full overhead lights!
Perhaps our biggest grumble was the £100 surcharge for heating. No matter if we had had the heating on full blast 24hours a day would we have consumed a £100 worth of fuel in the few days we were there. As it was we had the heating on for a few hours in the evening and the morning and felt there should be some sort of meter system if the owners feel the need to add on heating charges.
Apart from these few grumbles we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the house, the beds are indeed very comfortable and the bedding was of high quality. The kitchen was well equipped and we were pleased to see the wine on the table when we arrived and milk in the fridge.
