The Cottage on the Island

Perfect location, beautifully renovated and very comfortable.

We found the access difficult - key safe was broken which was frustrating after a long drive. Also we found the pillows hard and uncomfortable.

The Cottage is beautifully decorated with high-end finishes and thoughtful touches. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare a full meal and a lovely small garden to enjoy on sunny days. After travelling for 2 weeks, we especially appreciated the washing machine. Castleton is a lovely, small village near many of the sites we wanted to see. And it was nice to come back to our cozy cottage after a day of touring/hiking.

Not bad, per se, but travelers with limited mobility should know that the stairs to the bedrooms and bath are very steep and the old-fashioned clawfoot tub is very tall. Also, the garden could use a bit of TLC to make it really appealing but we did arrive in the middle of a rain.

Parking a bit of a problem

Beautifully refurbished cottage. Warm, cosy and dry. Central Castleton so super convenient for accessing the local area. Footpath to Mam Tor is on your doorstep and Cave Dale too! Well equipped kitchen, very comfortable, cosy sitting room. Beds have super comfortable mattresses & the bathroom is very nicely refurbished w roll top bath & rain forest shower.

Nothing major. We loved it overall. The pillows are very sturdy and difficult to get comfy on. Another time I’d take my own. The ‘parking space’ is very awkward & was impossible to use as neighbours were parked in such a way that we couldn’t get in. We found space round the corner from the cottage on the road by the church which worked well for us. I messaged via booking.com about a maintenance issue & never heard anything back. The ceiling light in the sitting room is hanging out the ceiling!
