CLIFFE COTTAGE - Countryside Cottage in Castleton, Peak District National Park

Absolutely incredible location being the 2nd to last house nearest to Peak Cavern / Devil's Arse. Great position for going out and exploring Castleton and for hiking having walked from the cottage up Mam Tor and along the ridge and back down, also highly accessible to the other nearby caves/mines. The kitchen had great facilities with numerous glasses, plates, pots, pans, oven, dishwasher, there was no shortage of crockery at any point and a dishwasher is an added bonus. It was nice having a dining room table which was handy for meals and playing games. There were plenty of towels available for use and clean bedlinen. The owner Ben was very helpful in trying to rectify an initial issue on arrival to the cottage though I did manage to resolve it myself. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Unfortunately, the shower is not working at all well. It is either boiling hot or freezing cold and not fit for use anymore, and I feel maybe replacing it should be considered by the owner, as 6 of us having baths wasn't ideal. Also, additionally in the bathroom only 2 toilet rolls were provided which weren't complete rolls at that and although we were only there 2 nights we ran out and had to purchase more. A couple of my family members complained about the lumpy pillows and not sleeping well but I had a relatively good nights sleep so cannot complain. On arrival it was difficult to find the parking permit (as it wasn't where it should have been) for the back of Peak Cavern car park. Parking is advertised with the property but it is actually a 2 minute walk from the property which means multiple trips back and forward to the house if you have a lot with you. It wasn't an issue for us but something for others to be aware of if their mobility isn't so good.

Great location very close to the village and right by the cavern. The cottage is very cosy, lovely logburner and everything was very clean and comfortable. We were there for a walking weekend and it was a perfect base to come back to.

Nothing not to like really - just a tiny point would be there was no cafetière or coffee machine.

Great cottage in the heart of Castelton. Chippy & pubs 2 minutes walk. Can't fault it.

Location was really good. Within close proximity to village shops. Also stone throw from Peak Cavern. Parking was also nearby.

Bed mattresses need replacing, they weren’t the most comfortable.
