We have stayed at the Heliotrope as a family previously, love their great big rooms with multiple beds. This time it was just us on our way south from a late ferry. Check-in closes at 10, got to an empty front desk with a sign on the door to call their sister property. The young woman who answered scolded us for arriving late and told us they had called and texted many times, and kept us standing in the dark while she got our card for 'incidentals'. In fact they had neither called nor texted, and there was nothing in the room at all, not a bottle of water, not even an extra blanket, so not sure what the urgency of the card for incidentals was. Staff should be better trained to welcome late arriving guests (we are tired!), should make sure they get comfortably in their room, then should proceed to asking for the card. A simple script would work. An extra blanket would be nice as well as there is no service available overnight. Place is cute and hip, now they need to double down on the actual hospitality.
