We are currently staying in Karavostamo but fancied a change of scenery. I had holidayed in Greece for 21 of the 26 years together, but recently my partner died and I have found it difficult to settle this year.
The Mesaktis Rooms were exactly what I needed. A beautiful tranquil setting, our terrace looked down on to a small lagoon. The owners gave me and my friend homemade lemonade and the most delicious homegrown figs, which we consumed whilst overlooking the lagoon, which was home to over 30 turtles! We were given bread with which to feed them. What a sight to feast your eyes on while we drank our delicious lemonade!
The accommodation is rustic, it’s not luxurious, but it’s what we both loved about this place. There are tavernas beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need to make a simple meal.
There are tavernas maybe 5 minutes walk away, a mini market next door, and over the road there is probably the best beach on Ikaria - Mesaktis beach. At the far end is a lagoon in which you can see even more turtles!
The hosts, as you may have picked up on, were so generous and warm. I miss the place, the kittens and Sadi the dog already.
This has been the standout experience so far of this 3 week Greek island hopping trip.
I absolutely loved it, and it helped me along in my grief journey.
To the owners: thank you for your hospitality, for letting me leave the car on your premises after we had checked out, and sorry for taking the room key!

Excellent accueil, Dora et Théo adorables. Le site charmant, à 6mn à pied de la plage et idem d’un joli petit village, avec restaurants, cafés, supermarché. Voyageant avec ma fille nous avions un logement avec 2 chambres et 2 salles de bain séparées.
Impeccable.
Seul petit bémol : la wifi à l’intérieur des chambres n’est pas au top. Mais ok à l’extérieur sur la terrasse.

De eigenaren zijn super lief en behulpzaam.
De locatie is uitstekend, je kunt gewoon wandelen naar het strand. Wat ons betreft het mooiste strand van Ikaria. Twee badkamers was heel fijn.
Ik had niet goed opgelet en kwam erachter dat de tweede slaapkamer ook tevens de woonkamer was. Ik weet niet of dit in de advertentie stond vermeld. Maar dit was uiteindelijk prima te doen.
