The hotel is beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic (dinner not so much). The heated pool and sauna area were also phenomenal. Everything was clean and there weren't many people, so it wasn't crowded. A little more attention to details would have made our stay an easy 10\10, but unfortunately that's not the case. If some of the facilities were not going to be available during our stay, they should have stated it beforehand. it could have made us choose somewhere else (trip bookings, spa hours, restaurants closed, etc...) Also putting signs on the foods for the meals is so basic. A shame for a 5-star hotel to fall on this one small but crucial thing. also, the hotel is huge and we didn't get a map so for 2 days we walked through the entire place to get to the pool or the dining hall, just to find out we were really close to it, we just couldn't really know. Big picture, it was great, but the small stuff added up and made it... well... it could have been so much better with so few improvements. I really hope you will take this into consideration and fix what should be fixed.
First of all, even though the weather was really nice and hot, the pools were FROZEN. We paid extra for a room with a private pool, and we ended up not using it once since it was too cold. Warming it up even a little would have made a huge difference to our stay. That also goes to the main pool outside. Because we came in October, there weren't many people, which was nice, but a lot of the activities mentioned on booking were not available. Like some of the restaurants were closed and we couldn't book boat trips, even though the weather was amazing, so we booked a trip through a different company. Also, the hours weren't updated, for example, the spa had a sign saying it's open until 7 pm, and at 6pm, they told us they were closing and that the hours had changed. They should have changed the sign accordingly. Also, we took half board, and dinner wasn't very good. I am a vegetarian, so I knew there would be things I wasn't going to eat and I'm totally okay with it, but there weren't many options and i ended up with mostly pasta and rice and nothing too nutritious. But the worst part about the food - there were missing signs about the dishes, so we could not know what was inside. And there wasnt employees to ask. As a vegetarian, I sometimes had to give up on a dish just because i couldn't tell what was inside. This affects anyone with dietary restrictions and is so easy to fix. One time there was a sign that didn't say something had meat in it, but looking at it, it was obvious that there was. Imagine if i were allergic! totally irresponsible. I told one of the workers there, and he said he knows and there is nothing he can do. This really made the whole eating experience frustrating. We also ate one night at the Blue Dong restaurant, they had only one dish with tofu, and they were out of tofu. a small thing like that can really change your entire experience at a hotel, especially a 5-star, not so chap one.

Our stay at Avra Imperial Hotel in Kolymvari, Chania was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special. The room was exquisite – truly beautiful and impeccably designed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring we had the most restful nights throughout our stay. The entire hotel exudes luxury at every turn, with stunning attention to detail and top-tier amenities that made us feel pampered throughout our visit. A special highlight of our experience was the exceptional service we received. The staff went above and beyond by graciously upgrading us to a junior suite with a private pool – an unexpected delight that made our stay even more memorable! Having our own private pool was an absolute dream. We must give particular recognition to Nadia and Manolis at the reception, who were both super friendly and incredibly professional. Their warm hospitality and attentiveness really set the tone for our entire stay and made us feel truly welcomed. The location of the hotel is also very convenient, making it easy to explore the area while having a luxurious retreat to return to. We cannot recommend Avra Imperial Hotel highly enough. It’s a world-class property with world-class service. We’re already looking forward to our next visit
There is not something we didn’t like. The hotel was amazing and there is no reason to complain about something.

The suite we got was very private and quiet, Room was very big and spacious, Great food option provided by the hotel between the buffet and the restaurants. Great room service aswell of you missed the restaurant hours Amazing spa facilities and great options for massages and beauty treatments Amazing Japanese style restaurant, the blue dong! Service and food was top notch
The minibar wasn’t refilled during our 11 nights stay, we asked for it and we were told only once a week but didn’t get a refill after a week Bed mattress was very uncomfortable and soft! I ask for the mattress to be changed which at the beginning they didn’t wanted to but after exchanging they resulted in swapping one, which was appreciated but didn’t resolve the issue as it was the same issue, too soft! Room walls and floors were slightly damaged and tired, not what you could expect from a 5 stars in my opinion! Cocktails at the pool bar were ok but not fantastic, some of the staff were very unfriendly and slightly nonchalant, again not what I would expect from a 5 stars in my opinion!

The location was good to visit around Chania and some nice beach spot. The breakfast on the other side of the bridge was for 13th y.o or more was so much more calmer than the regular breakfast buffet. The resort is big, many pools.
Few things, but the worst was the noise. We got one of the worst room (beside the kindergarten lol… i don’t know why they put a room juste beside) and the room was directly facing the buffet so the terrasse was not really offering a minimal intimacy. The bar was directly below us, which made quite lots of noise. It was even louder in our room than the bar… Other thing for the noise, we could hear the neighbours opening their suitcases line if they were in our room. (I am not exaggerating, but it tells you we could hear everything to well from neighbours from « normal » living noise to their music or conversation). If the neighbours come back a bit later than what you go to bed, it will definitely wake you up. Reserving from booking probably got us one of the worst room. Coffee machine would be a must, i don’t get why it is only cheap instant coffee while other cheap hotel have espresso machines. The spa and pool section is nice but getting old and not really sanitary. Water is pooling everywhere and people not using sandals. The double inclusion (breakfast and dinner (could be replaced by lunch if you want) was fine, nothing exceptional but what we are used in other types of resort. Although if you want beverage, from juices to alcoholic drink you have to pay. At least the coffee in the morning was free.
