We arrived a couple of hours later than planned and Valerie waited to meet us at the property and get us settled. She was very kind and pleasant and between us, we managed to bridge our language gap. We stayed in the double room with terrace which is the door furthest left in the attached pictures. We were greeted with a complimentary charcuterie plate and a bottle of wine from the region. The studio apartment was very clean, pleasantly designed and decorated, bright without being overly sunny during the day, and well-equipped. The bed itself was comfortable for sleeping. The hair dryer was a plus. We had been booked elsewhere but when we saw the high temperatures in Tournus around the time of our stay, we canceled and rebooked with Domaine des Jardins for the air conditioning and were so glad we did. The air conditioning unit in our room worked well and provided much needed relief after long days of walking in the heat. The location across the river from town was beautiful and peaceful. It was an easy walk across the bridge to the center of town and we enjoyed seeing all the folks picnicking along the grassy riverbank. The private parking directly on site was very convenient. We met Stephane the night before we were leaving when he checked in on us. He was genial and very flexible regarding our "checkout" time as we had an event to attend that morning. All-in-all, a very positive experience and wonderful accommodation.
While we generally found the lighting in the room soothing and pleasant, as others have noted, the lighting in the bathroom could certainly be better. Also, the room was very dark during the night with the lights out. There was a sweet little table lamp on the dining table that served as a good nightlight during our first night, but we did not have the charging cable to recharge it and were unable to use it throughout the rest of our stay. In addition to having the charging cable for that little lamp, it would be good to have a nightlight of some sort. While not a problem for us, others looking to book this room should know that there is a wall that only reaches halfway to the high ceiling separating the room and bathroom. While it didn't allow for much privacy in the bathroom, it did enable great air circulation. A small point, but it would be helpful to have some simple hooks in the bathroom for hanging hand towels on either side of the mirror and on the wall by the shower for hanging clothes. As noted above, the bed itself was quite comfortable for us but the large square, plump, firm pillows were uncomfortable for both of us. The option of some more traditional, flatter or less firm pillows would have made sleep easier. During our time there, we had a small table and two chairs outside the room in the gravel courtyard area, but the terrace shown in pictures overlooking the river was not set up. While it would have been hot sitting outside, it might have been a nice option after sunset. Over the three to four days that we stayed, we were the only "residents," and except for that last evening, we saw no one else on the property. This was both a positive and a bit of a negative. We felt a little isolated but knew we could contact the owners if need be. However, it also felt like being in our own home and we felt entirely safe throughout our time there.
