Hôtel de l'Abbaye Lyon - Boutique Hôtel

We really did not know much about Lyon. Read a very positive review on this hotel and decided to book it. Our itinerary only allowed for one night so we did not really have a plan. On our arrival, Marina (hopefully that is her name) was just amazingly helpful. We asked her to book a restaurant for us and suggest how we spent our afternoon. She planned an amazing quick tour which led us to an experience igniting a sudden love for Lyon.

The location is just perfect. We travelled by train and the station is just 15 minutes away by taxi. There is great shopping, sights and expereinces in walking distance. And prenty of restaurants. The staff, the atmosphere, and the beds are all five star experiences! Don't let the strange Google Street View fool you since it takes you to the end of street on the side of the hotel. The entrance is from a sidewalk in front of the church. Great to sip a drink outside.

The staff at L'Abbaye was very welcoming but often busy. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of excellent foods. The hotel is a lovely facility and situated next to an historic church, very picturesque. There was nearby construction which was a bit unattractive but we heard no noise in our room and slept comfortably.

It was both an advantage and disadvantage that the hotel was more urban than we thought it would be from the website information. Our neighborhood was a bit dark when we returned at night but we never felt unsafe. The hotel contains a Michelin rated restaurant which requires advanced reservations. Luckily there are many restaurants within walking distance which can be visited more serendipitously. The staff was helpful in setting up a reservation nearby.

The hotel is in a great location: quiet (occasional church bells, which we loved), within walking distance of Place Bellecour and points north, and Perrache (good for trams). The metro is three minutes walk. The breakfast buffet is good, and we liked the small lounge downstairs. The staff are very friendly and professional with it. The rooms are comfortable.

The shower room was our only 'problem'. The shower's great, but the lighting is poor, inadequate over the basin/mirror. Also, wet shaving with no plug in the basin, and a tap right in the middle, is far from ideal.

Beautifully renovated. Central location. The staff is exceptional helping us w booking dinner and taxis.

Nothing. Will be back to this hotel.
