Staff were happy and helpful at reception. They sorted out and explained the parking scratch card to us as we parked in the short stay car park close by. They also gave us ideas of where to eat in the evening. Staff around the hotel and working in the bar were helpful and informative and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was extremely clean and the bed was comfortable we had a great night's sleep. Our full English breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choice on the menu. Overall we had a lovely overnight stay in a beautiful historic building which was ideally positioned in the heart of Salisbury and would definitely visit again.
We heard the hotel had a reputation for being haunted but we didnt have any sightings or experiences during our stay. Apart from that we liked everything.

Reception easy check in. Hotel has kept it's historical character. Great location, no road noise. Room was upgraded.

Mixed bag. Great spacious room, but the large TV opposite the sofa in the lounge area wouldn't connect. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast on Sunday was fine, good choice, but on Monday tired and sparce at 8.30.
Location is great, but that is about all.
In my view this is a 3 star hotel living off it's olde worlde charm as 4 stars. No doubt it is comfortable internally but the exterior fabric needs attention, for example the wooden external window ledges in my room were rotten.
I didn't see a lift anywhere after having a good look around.
I would like to have seen a grab rail installed over the bath/shower, although a clean shower mat was provided, for older guests whose age related movements it would provide confidence.
The receptionists I spoke to were not welcoming and when I reported a loose stair rod on a steep flight of stairs on departure, the reaction was lukewarm, almost dismissive.
My test for any hotel is whether I would return, I won't.
