Bluefairy villa is one of two unique villas that are located in the most panoramic point of the region Kournas. They are built in a way that wherever you are you can enjoy the unique view of the lake and the White Mountains, also with a magnificent backdrop to the deep bay of Georgioupolis and the deep blue of the Cretan Sea.

As they are situated in the heart of Apokoronas, just outside the traditional village Kournas, the villas are the ideal starting point for all kinds of tours around the area. Explore the lake and the Cretan nature, visit Crete’s north and south coast, admire the island’s tradition and culture and enjoy its hospitality.
As you walk in each one of the 120sqm villas, the living room along with a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table is situated there for you. Two Sofas that can turn into beds, a High Definition TV and a WC can be found also on the ground floor. Walking up the stairs and heading up to the second floor, 2 bedrooms with one double bed and one with two single beds can be found.
The ideal location in the hilly area of Apokoronas, but only 3 km from the beaches of Georgioupolis, amidst mountains, lakes and the sea, allows you for short walks and longer excursions to experience the Cretan nature and our people.
Apokoronas is one of the five former provinces of Chania prefecture and is situated at the northeast part of the prefecture. Kournas is one of the area’s traditional villages. The area of Apokoronas extends from the foothills of Lefka Ori north to the beach, with several gulfs, such the gulf of Almyros and Georgioupolis.
Kournas Lake, 3 km from Georgioupolis, is the southern lake of whole Europe. It is created thanks to the underground water coming down from Lefka Ori and is trapped by the impervious rocks within the natural basin.
Lake Kournas was known in antiquity as Lake Koressia. Its current name comes from the Arabic language and means bathtub and lake. The lake’s dark waters impress not only the visitors but also the natives, thus there is the belief that it is bottomless. The lake has some more legends and of course its own water nymph who appears on moonlit nights, combing her hair.
The villas lie above Lake Kournas on the north end of Chania prefecture, almost in the middle between Chania (40 km to the east) and Rethymno (30 km to the west). From Kournas you can easily get to the highway (1000 m) and visit Chania, the Omalos plateau, the Samaria Gorge (79 km), Fragokastelo and other places in Chania prefecture, or drive west and visit Rethymno with the impressive castle or Heraklion and Knossos (105 km), an important town in the antiquity.
There are daily departures from Piraeus to the port of Souda, only 45 km form the lake. You could also travel by aeroplane to Chania or Heraklion from Athens or most European cities.

We spent five days at Villa Rea enjoying fantastic views of Lake Kournas and the sea from the terrace and pool. The villa was extremely comfortable and we were welcomed with homemade cake, pastries, fruit and raki.
Eleftheria and her family were lovely hosts and the local tavernas which they had recommended were excellent, the usual generous portions of delicious authentic Cretan food!
The location was perfect for us as quiet and away from the tourists but still walking distance to the tavernas and Lake Kournas and only a few minutes drive to nearby Georgioupoli.
Loved our time there and only wished we had longer!

We stayed 10 nights at Villa Rea in Kavalos. The site offers perfect views over Lake Kournas and to the Mediterranian Sea which is only 2-3 km away. For groceries you need a car to go to Georgioupoli, which is a small nearby town with plenty of dining opportunities. We can highly recommend the fish restaurant Poseidon in Georgioupoli. One of the main advantages of the Villa is the many tavernas which are within close reach on foot, so that no car is needed. Special recommendation to Taverna Athitis and Taverna Cafe Kavalos which both serves authentic Cretan food. We had Tzaziki and Mousaka plus a lot more every day :-)
The hostess Eleftheria was extremely nice and available for good sight seeing advice physically and via e-mail. The house was very nice, spotlessly clean and we needed nothing. Don’t forget to take on a pedal boat tour on the lake Kournas, where you can be lucky to see a turtle or two if you sail close to the edge.
Definitely a great location on Crete if you want a tranquil place a bit away from the tourist crowds (which we prefer).

Perfektes Domizil ! Wunderschön oberhalb des Kournas-See gelegenes Domizil mit Sicht auf See, Berge und das Meer. Ausgesprochen fürsorgliche und sehr nette Vermieter. ( Mit mindestens 5 Ausrufezeichen).Bezüglich Sauberkeit und Ausstattung hatten wir als 4-köpfige Familie definitiv nichts auszusetzen. Wer keine absolute Strandnähe und Trubel braucht, ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Mehrere ordentliche Tavernen liegen in Laufweite, Supermärkte, Bäcker etc. in 3 km Entfernung, Selbstversorgung war aber null Problem.
Hundertprozentige Weiterempfehlung !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
