Clifton Hotel

Location Good. We rang and reserved Parking Space which went well, get a traffic cone with your name on. Had a fridge & fan in the room good for the hot weather. Shower good. Toiletries and kettle with Coffee etc provided. Didn't eat there ourselves but food options looked good. Comfortable enough for us for the 2 nights. Asked for quiet room on higher floor which we got but then little bit of disadvantage as per the below

Room 477 the ceiling had obviously leaked (previously ?) and the wallpaper stuck on the ceiling was flaking off causing white dust onto the table below. Hotel does need better decorating inside and out. We were by the fire exit and the alarm was going off at 2.20am, only seemed to be on our floor - no one was responding to it, couldn't see a fire but we had to rush down to Reception 4 floors and ask them to switch it off, no phone to call 0 etc, Reception didn't even seem aware the alarm was going off !! maybe someone went on fire escape for a smoke ?? Bathroom tap and toilet pressure was odd - tap was very noisey and water cloudy for the kettle, so used shower water instead. Toilet didn't flush properly on last day. and you were kinda sat on the radiator whilst on the toilet. Lift was bit small and couldn't always get so had to do stairs a few times. Advise to Check your booking before arrival as some couples were told there was nothing on the system for them, Advise to do the parking reservation at hotel for peace of mind as NCP over road only has 6 spaces and the rest is just street parking (but I think you get a pass for that). Have to give room key back in on exit each time for Fire reasons but then might have to wait to get it back if others checking in etc had to try to jump a big queue to get key back.

Exceptionally helpful staff, easy to locate, good value for money, tasty food provided clean bedrooms and more than accommodating

The hotel has limited parking available on a first come first served basis (around 16 spaces) however on street overnight parking was available, again on a first come first served basis although the parking was restricted to permit holders during certain hours

It's position

Rubbish tiny lift which if someone didn't manually close the door after them it was stuck on that floor. If you were waiting for the lift you had to move out of the way to let them pass. You had to hand your key in when you went out and then wait until they could attend to you to ask for your key back. An old hotel which needed some attention to detail when redecorating the rooms like uneven floors, frayed carpet and woodwork which hadn't been sanded down prior to painting. That said I would stay again, vfm.
