Wander out of the cottage and straight into the heart of Lavenham, with its gorgeous timber-framed buildings and narrow streets. Just 100 metres away is the Guild Hall, which houses a museum where you can learn all about the fascinating past of this picture-postcard medieval village. You’ll find a good range of independent shops and eateries within the village, or for a full day of retail therapy, head to the nearby market towns of Sudbury (7 miles) or Bury St Edmunds (12 miles). The countryside surrounding Lavenham is a haven for walkers, with footpaths through ancient woodlands and across open fields.
