About this house rental

“Awesome eclectic and artistic place for a group/family in Mendocino” - Annie

Welcome to Mendocino Stone Ranch Compound, a truly unique escape that brings together 3 distinct & beautifully crafted spaces into one unforgettable retreat. This compound combines The Adobe House, The Redstone House, & The Yurt. Surrounded by towering redwoods, sweeping ocean views, & handcrafted stone art installations. This is a place where nature, creativity, & peaceful living come together seamlessly.

FEATURED ON ABC – CELEBRATED FOR ITS ARTISTRY & NATURAL BEAUTY!

Set among towering coastal redwoods with sweeping ocean views, the Mendocino Stone Ranch is home to over 30 handcrafted stone installations, winding forest trails, and peaceful outdoor spaces that invite exploration, reflection, and connection. This is not just a place to stay, but a living work of art.

Mendocino Stone Ranch began in 2002 as the inspired vision of Peter Joseph Mullins, who transformed a quiet woodland property into a sanctuary of stone, forest, and imagination. For over two decades, Peter welcomed master stonemasons from around the world to leave their mark on the land, resulting in arches, towers, mosaics, and sculptural forms thoughtfully woven into the landscape.

Today, the ranch spans walkable forest acreage where redwood canopies filter coastal light, ocean air drifts through the trees, and stonework reveals itself around every bend. Guests are invited to wander, pause, and experience the rare blend of craftsmanship and wilderness that defines this property.

The Fish Rock Tower is especially remarkable, designed with a lime mortar that actually strengthens with every rainfall — one of Mullins’ prized masterpieces.

Please note: this listing is a compound, not one single house.

The Adobe House and Yurt are near each other, while The Redstone House is across the road. Each has its own entrance. Guests share the land and outdoor experience, but not one indoor living space.

This setup is best for groups comfortable staying across multiple buildings while gathering outdoors, on decks, and throughout the forest setting. If your group prefers everyone under one roof with one shared living room, this may not be the best fit.

The Adobe House offers warm textures, thoughtful design, and light-filled interiors with forest and ocean views.

The Redstone House feels deeply connected to the landscape, with stone pathways and art leading from the patio into the grounds.

The Yurt is a glamping-style retreat tucked among the trees and is best for adventurous guests, couples, teens, or overflow sleeping. It is not a traditional house or hotel-style bedroom.

Together, the 3 spaces create a private yet spread-out compound where guests can gather easily outdoors while still enjoying quiet and privacy.

Ideal for larger groups, family gatherings, retreats, milestone celebrations, and guests who love art, nature, and scenic trails.

Explore winding paths through redwood forest, discover stone installations at every turn, or simply relax on the decks with ocean breezes and forest light.

Located just minutes from some of the most beautiful coastal and forest attractions on the Mendocino and Sonoma coast, this property offers both peaceful seclusion and easy access to nature and small‑town amenities.

Though the property feels private and tucked away, you're just minutes from some of the coast’s best scenery and outdoor spots. Gualala Point Regional Park is about 5 to 7 minutes away and offers bluff trails, a river estuary, picnic areas, whale-watching spots, and beach access along the Pacific.

Just north, Cooks Beach and the Gualala Bluff Trail are both within about 5 to 6 minutes, ideal for quiet beach walks, tidepooling, and easy coastal strolls with sweeping ocean views.

A short 7 to 10 minute drive south brings you to Sea Ranch, where coastal access points like Stengel Beach, Pebble Beach, and Black Point offer dramatic cliffs, tide pools, and beautiful sunset views.

For river activities, Gualala River Redwood Park is about 6 to 8 minutes away and is great for kayaking, canoeing, picnics, and relaxing beneath the redwoods.

If you're up for a scenic day trip, Point Arena Lighthouse is about 25 to 30 minutes north, with panoramic coastal views, walking trails, and a small museum.

You’ll also be close to local galleries, restaurants, and the scenic stretches of Highway 1, perfect for slow drives and discovering hidden coves along the coast.
"We stayed for 5 days and were still discovering more beautiful art and quiet spots and wildlife on the last day." - David

Important notes:

- Each home and its immediate outdoor surroundings are private and reserved exclusively for our guests. The ranch’s stone installation trails are open to daytime visitors who come to experience the art.

- Most guests love the ranch for its close connection to nature. Because we're in a beautiful coastal area with abundant wildlife, it’s normal for the occasional insect to make its way inside, especially through open doors or windows. While we can’t control nature, the home is regularly treated by a professional pest control company to help minimize any issues.

To keep the space comfortable, please wipe up spills promptly, store food in the fridge or in sealed containers, and clean pet food bowls after use. Leaving food out can attract ants, so a little extra care goes a long way.

- We can comfortably accommodate up to 20 overnight guests and allow up to 6 additional daytime visitors, for a total of 26 people on the property. Daytime visitors are welcome between 7 AM and 10 PM.

- Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. We appreciate your help in keeping this sanctuary peaceful and being considerate of our others.

- No smoking: This is a no-smoking home (including vaping). A deep-clean fee will apply if this rule is violated.

- Dogs under 50 lbs are welcome for an additional fee, but we’re unable to accommodate cats. Please keep a close eye on your furry friends, as the property is fully open to the forest and they could easily wander off.

- No parties or large events allowed. This home is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and with neighbors nearby, noise carries easily. We appreciate your help in keeping the area peaceful.

- Please park cars in the garage or driveway of the home with a maximum of 8 parked vehicles per reservation. Please note that parking of RVs, Motorhomes, Boats or Trailers are not permitted within the community.

- Fire Safety: Wood-burning stove is available for use. Please follow the safety instructions in the welcome guide and never leave fires unattended.

***We work with a private security company that can be dispatched if we receive reports of excessive noise or parking violations.

***As is common with many homes and vacation rental properties, we have installed on-site devices for your security. These may include electronic door locks, light timers, security alarms, exterior motion sensors, outdoor facing cameras (which record whenever motion is detected including voices), smoke detection devices, and decibel meters (which do not record voices).

For your privacy, we do not have any cameras inside the house. Cameras are all in plain sight and are located at the front entrance doorbell, and inside the garage. Tampering with the WiFi, mesh routers, or any of the security devices is grounds for immediate eviction with no refunds.

When you stay at Medocino Stone Ranch - The Compound, you're covered for any accidents that might happen up to $3,000. The $42 charge listed as a "management fee" on your quote covers your purchase of $3,000 of "all risk" damage protection coverage on your rental property. This protection is purchased in lieu of a security deposit. Coverage details are spelled out in the rental agreement.
