Town: Aberdare is a town in the Cyon Valley area of Rhondda Cyon Taf, Wales, which dates from the middle ages. During the 19th century it became a thriving industrial settlement, which was also notable for the vitality of its cultural life and as an important publishing centre. By the middle of the 15th century, the town contained a water mill in addition to a number of thatched cottages, of which no evidence remains. The original parish church of St John the Baptist was originally built in 1189. Some of its original architecture is still intact. Aberdare is home to a number of parks including Dare Valley Country Park which is all set in 500 acres of the beautiful Welsh countryside and has plenty to offer, from walks to outdoor activities to local pubs for some lovely home made food. Aberdare also has a famous indoor market with a range of stalls, from antique shops to fruit and veg to Welsh cakes to clothing. It is an important part of this town's shopping culture.
