Before and during our stay John, the host, was always attentive and supportive. Mandy who is the on-site Manager was lovely and really helpful and was there to meet us when we arrived. Because we live local to the area Mandy was good enough to allow my mum and grandkids have a look around this historical property too. It is an amazing old building dating back to the 13th century. There was a good combination of old features particularly in the main entrance and sitting room and also luxury well equipped modern bathrooms. As locals living close by, it was a fantastic opportunity to stay overnight in such a wonderful building. From the village and small road that leads to the castle you wouldn’t know it was there. Well recommended to stay somewhere unique and historical. For those with families it would make an ideal base to explore the area and visit Alton Towers.

Fabulous place to stay. Completely unique accommodation and it really did feel as though we were staying in a fairytale castle. Very responsive and helpful host. There were 7 of us staying for a birthday celebration and it is just perfect for relaxing and enjoying each others company. The period bedrooms and the contrasting modern en-suite bathrooms are absolutely stunning. We have already booked again for next year

Good points-The building is impressive from the outside , as is the outside space and its great value for money when you consider the grounds- Turrets are great, all very smart and clean.- Guest dining room is nicely done and authentic- Village is just a short walk with a pub, massive Tesco nearby and can recommend Moddeshall Oaks Spa very close by- When we had issues with the hot water in part of the building the live-in host got it sorted in a few hours. Even then we had hot water available in other parts of the property so not a problemThings to be aware of- Guests are asked not to use the main entrance and are asked to use the cellar entrance to the main building- Many of the photos are of rooms that you are asked not to use. - The cellar entrance takes you into a gloomy lounge area. Worse still is the kitchen which we were told would be refurbished before we arrived. The photo shows this is quite industrial, there is an old oven/hob and some old fridges and there is a huge boarded up area (not visible in photos). Initially the second more modern kitchen wasnt open for us, but this was opened up, but that is much smaller.- Whilst there are benefits to having a live-in host, they do access the main hallway to the front door, so whilst the bedrooms and cellar is private, the rest is not.- The "courtyard garden" where you sit outside is actualy an old patio outside the cellar next to a half finished conservatory
