Region: Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Town: The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Pros: Really lovely place, good location to drive out from and explore the coastline. Thoughtful welcome basket. Really lovely quality linen and towels, beds really comfy. Con: Big issue for us was communication with the agents. We booked through vrbo, I downloaded their app to send a message to owners with some questions before we went but never got a reply, I hadn't realised it was linked to Sykes too as we then got a confirmation from Sykes, also asking us to download their app, which I did. Nowhere on app to chat to someone to ask questions before or report maintenance issues whilst there. We had a few maintenance issues (one which needed fixing asap) and spent ages trying to find who to report it to as there's no direct contact or details for owner. Instead it's yet another third party who weren't easy to get through to at all! We had to report an issue so it could be fixed for the next people. By that time it was the afternoon before we were leaving so said they could fix after. It is absolutely crazy to have 2 separate apps but nowhere to report issues. They literally just tell you what you already know and what is already confirmed by email. The apps may look pretty but honestly are pointless! There should be a chat function or report issue during your stay button...

Excellent cottage, immaculately presented. Good coastal location, approximately 2.5 mile walk from Bamburgh. Superb welcome pack on arrival, with lots of lovely treats. Wood burning stove but remember to take your own kindling and logs. We arrived after 4pm and weren’t able to have a fire on the first night. We’ve stayed at other properties where a starter pack of kindling and logs have been provided. No problem but would suggest owners include this in the details. Overall, excellent and highly recommended.
