The accommodation was excellently fitted out and very comfortable. The host was quick to respond and came to the apartment within minutes when I was not sure on the location and how to gain entry.
Whilst the location in the centre of Rennes SHOULD be excellent, the street is full of buildings being renovated and has an overall ambiance of being RUNDOWN. It is a Medieval street so that should be expected, but this apartment appears to be one of the first few to be refurbished, and the owner has done a great job. When I arrived it was not easy to identify the apartment as there were a number of males standing sheltering and drinking/smoking in the doorway and in the general area of the entrance. I was not intimidated, and I do not think the men posed any threat, but I would caution a lone female of even a number of females that the location may be a bit intimidating. On entering the door from the street, the corridor and stairs are quite dilapidated and run down, continuing a possible sense of caution. The apartment is above a pub and the street is noisy at night. This was pointed out in advance, and earplugs provided [which I used], but nonetheless I was awakened a few times.
