The Hensley Historic District was adopted as a local Historical Landmark District in 1990 by the San Jose City Council. The district contains over 225 buildings that contribute to its historic character, representing the largest concentration of Victorian era residences in greater San Jose.
The namesakes of the district, Major Samuel J. and Mary Helen Hensley, were early San Jose residents of the American period, whose lives are interwoven with the origins of modern California.The period of significance for the establishment of the historic district is 1865-1918.
456 north 3rd st, named The Hensley house, is one of the top well-perserved Victorian building since 1894.
It was a B&B in 70th, and turned into Airbnb by its new owner. Now, the Hensley House has 7 unities, all has its own bathroom, some has full kitchen.
The Unit 1, located at the first floor, is the most well kept from the original interior amount other units. Colorful stained glass, hand carved wood cabinet, gold chandelier, hand painted ceiling with gold foil…
While experiencing the historical beauty, newly remodeled shower, bath top, and kitchen will give guests higher comfort level.
Sleeping on the Tempur-pedic bed, with the fireplace by the side, watching 55in smart TV, will call for the night.

A great place to stay in the Historic district of San Jose. It's close to numerous amenities, corner store, restaurants, bars, mini golf, ... There is also public transit nearby, buses and trains to get around. It is simply 8 minutes from your stay to the convention center. There are 6 spots at this house and Room 1 was where we stayed. Very roomy and quite surprised there was a kitchenette! The style is eclectic and true to period (1800's) The separate restroom from the shower was great. There is also a soaking tub if you want to take a dip. The bed was amazing! Very comfortable. There was no a/c in the room only a fan. It did the trick though. There was no soap for the shower, so thankfully we knew the people in Room 6 and they gave us some and in return we gave them paper towels.The communication with the VRBO house owner was amazing! When I had a question, she responded quickly. They gave easy instructions to get into the front door and to our quarters. They even let us know where we should park as the next day would be street cleaning. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone looking for an "apartment" type feel instead of just a hotel. This place will definitely be where I will stay again when I come to San Jose.

I’ve stayed here a few times and it’s always fantastic! My son just started at SJSU and this is a fantastic property to stay at because it’s close and it’s cool and comfortable. I’ll be back for sure. I’m sorry my pictures aren’t great but it’s all I have. The place is beautiful.

There weren't any hand towels in bathroom, which I found odd. I was only staying one night, so didn't open fridge or use kitchen, but the dishwasher was all dirty and stained from the outside. Windows don't seem to open, so the morning when the shower was running, it got really warm in there. No way to control temps. I also had to reach out to host to get my access information morning of instead of the details being provided to me. Property looks elegant in photos, but doesn't translate in person. The bed was comfy and clean! The shower had great pressure and a good shower head! We stayed here as it was affordable compared to locations closer to Levi stadium. The grounds were underwhelming, but overall totally fine for one night.
