The Monarch Hotel

Our room was ground floor and looked over the bay.

Location could not be better! Fun to stay in one of the original buildings in this neighborhood. A large room, with one window looking out over the water and pier, good coffeemaker, frig, dining table. Could accommodate a family with another bed/cot. Entrance for this and another room are along the back of the building--step out and you're on the waterfront walkway.

Noise from an adjacent room was audible, but not a problem at night.

Historical building in the old downtown. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Super high ceilings/windows.

Nothing really. Climbing the flight of stairs good challenge for 75 ur old legs!

Wonderful historic building and an excellent location. An easy walk to bars and restaurants in old town. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The gal who checked us in was very nice.

We expected the accommodations to be reflective of an old building. However, the electrical outlets in the room were inadequate. We arrived on a cold evening, and the room’s heater did not work. They did provide a space heater, but the room remained chilly throughout our stay. The bedroom outlets must not have been working, as they had a power strip plugged into an outlet in the bathroom, wedged under the door so it was usable in the bedroom. I was in the middle of a shower when all the lights went out, and it was pitch black. My husband searched for a GFI with his phone flashlight, but none were in the room. We finally called the number for the front desk (after hours, so no one was physically there). We were told that someone else on the floor had probably run a hairdryer, which tripped the breaker, as it sometimes does (hairdryers were not supplied by the hotel, at least not in our room). We were then told where the main breaker box was located, on the second floor by the boiler. My husband was able to reset the breaker and restore our electricity. It would have been very difficult for me had he not been there.
