We found this apartment to be unbearably noisy and booked a hotel for our 2nd night.
The host also took my passport for the duration of our hire - I felt foolish for letting it happen but it took me by surprise. We were expecting to pay the E200 deposit mentioned in the booking form rather than hand over such a precious document.
On a positive note:-
It is very close to the beach, the harbour and restaurants, and there is enough space to store bikes (on the verandah).
There is a nice outside seating area with a view to the sea. There is a washing machine that was easy to use.
I am surprised by how few honest reviews there are of this place. I usually trust the Booking.com rating number and review summaries but they are misleading in this case.
The main issue is noise. This flat is literally feet away from the outside seating area of a busy restaurant - you can hear all the conversations. There is a nightclub close by that sends thumping sound waves through the floor of the apartment so can’t be avoided by shutting the windows. We thought it wouldn’t be an issue on a Tuesday night in September but it went on until after 3am. After this people were shouting in the street, plus there was a lot of noise from bottle dumping and refrigerated lorries idling outside with their engine running. I didn’t get to sleep until 6am. We didn’t stay in the apartment for the second night - we booked a simple and completely quiet hotel round the corner.
This is an old fashioned and dated apartment that doesn’t feel like it is properly equipped for rentals. The kitchen smells of frying, the cereal bowls are all cracked, all the catering equipment had to be washed before use - even the coffee machine was dirty, everything is old and well-used, there are old random things in the drawers, and there are odd numbers of everything (cups, plates etc).
We had to pay E20 for bed linen and towels. This is very unusual these days. The bed sheet was ripped and the very small hand towels didn’t seem to have been washed.
The internal seating is very uncomfortable and the main bedroom is small and closest to all the noises.
The remote control for the TV didn’t work and doesn’t appear to have worked for some time (very old batteries).
There is no WiFi
There is no information sheet about the apartment e.g. what to do with rubbish.
The structure of the building is crumbing - bits of concrete have fallen off.
This is an expensive property - we stayed in a beautiful hotel in St-Cyr-sur-Mer for a lot less money on our way to Cassis - so expected better than this.
