The manager and the bar staff of Alma Vale Tavern were fantastic - friendly and helpful. The room was larger than I expected - lots of space - and very clean. I would have liked a comfortable chair to sit in (upholstered) but, otherwise, the room was very, very good, and the bed was amazing - huge and very firm, which is perfect for me as I have issues with lower back pain and arthritis. The bathroom was well appointed.
The entrance to the upper floors where the guest accommodation is located is something of a drawback. The stairs are uncarpeted and there was a very strong meaty smell that I assume was coming from the kitchen. However, once on the floor where the accommodation is located, this was nicely decorated and carpeted, and welcoming.

The bed was comfortable Nice to have some coffee in the morning.
The walls were spattered with marks and were dirty - they looked all right from a distance but when you got close it was clear no one had wiped them down and you could see stains widely through the room. The duvet was very thin and left us cold all night, even with the heat on. The bathroom door didn't close properly and the walls were splattered with marks and were dirty.
