The toilet was to low. My mum could have been better served with a disability toilet seat to make it easier to get up off the toilet. Was told by reception you don't provide extra. My question why have it so low?

The reception staff members were friendly and most helpful.
The room was exceptionally spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is centrally located and there are a large number of excellent restaurants within walking distance.
There is secure Wilsons parking a couple of minutes' walk away at the KPMG building which costs roughly the same as the hotel's own parking ($20), but which is more secure, or you can park unsecured on the street for $6.
The hotel is housed in an absolutely beautiful old building. Take the heritage lift up to the second floor and admire the a pitched glass skylight. In the room I stayed in on the second floor, the external fire escape doubles as a little balcony with a view over the bustling street below (think New York!).
The air conditioning works very well.
The cost of the accommodation is very reasonable (and reflects the hotel's tired interior).
Both the hotel’s interior and rear external areas are in desperate need of restoration and updating; the hotel's original name, Le Grand Hotel, now a misnomer, still appears at the front on the outside.
There is no extractor fan in the shower room which smells like Rotorua and makes the whole room smell like Rotorua, more so if you leave the shower room door open.
Since staying there, I have read a review on tripadvisor of someone who stayed in this hotel in 2014 and had pretty much the same complaints. Though I doubt it will ever happen, wouldn't it be amazing if some rich person/conglomerate/company FINALLY bought this hotel and developed it to its full potential!

Spacious
Outdated, not pleasing to the eye, jets in bath didnt work, water spillage in bathroom, aircon was loud, tv was far away from bed and fridge didnt match any other furniture

I wasn't expecting to have to pay extra for parking. The location is on a noisey busy street. Ok if you are there to be in the centre of town. My room was fine but the cleanliness of the rest of the building was average.
