In August 2016 we opened our holiday home in Monschau-Kalterherberg in the Eifel. The former farmhouse with barn was completely renovated between March 2015 and July 2016 and extensively converted into a modern and cozy holiday home on two floors with about 110 square meters of living space. It is located about 300 meters from the center in a quiet location. Parking is available directly at the house, bicycles can be safely parked in the barn.
The Hohe Venn (high moorland) and the Eifel National Park are just a few minutes away. Many beautiful hiking and biking trails (RurUfer cycle path, Vennbahnradweg) lead directly past our place.
Our equipment:
The house is centrally heated with a modern pellet stove. Wood pellets must be refilled occasionally.
Fully furnished country kitchen with all the usual electrical appliances (oven, dishwasher, ceramic hob with hood, large fridge ,, microwave, toaster, coffee machines, etc.) and a basic set of spices, Spültabs etc. Big table for seven people.
Cozy living room with reading corner, couch, satellite TV (40 "), Bluray player, radio, electric fireplace.
Three bedrooms (one a walk-through room) with a total of 7 beds on two floors (2 double beds, 3 single beds in the children's room). The bedroom on the ground floor also has a spacious washing area. All beds / bedding (except extra bed) including the mattresses are suitable for allergy sufferers. Maximum occupancy: 4 adults, 3 children (1 additional cot possible).

Two bathrooms incl. WC, some with underfloor heating, bathtub, walk-in shower, changing table
Play area with many games, Lego, Playmobil, wooden blocks and a Wii. Games room with pool billiards, table football and darts. There is also a large selection of board games in the living room. Even if the sun does not shine, there should be no boredom.
Outside there is a garden trampoline, slackline, children's swing, small playhouse, sandpit and vehicles.
On the furnished terrace you can play garden chess and a large charcoal grill is available.
WLAN with a transfer rate of 16 Mbps is included.
In addition, a washing machine, dryer, ironing board, iron and a freezer, as well as a travel cot and 2 children's high chairs are available free of charge. High quality linen and towels are provided.
The village center with supermarket, bakery, butcher, pizzeria, bistro, restaurant, bank, post office and family doctor is about 300 meters away.

Our cottage in a quiet location is designed especially for families with children, recreation seekers and active vacationers. For stag and hen parties and similar occasions, the house is not suitable.

Overall we had a wonderful stay at haus Schmedte. The children loved all the toys, the playground but also the nice surroundings of Kalterherberg. Would book the house again in the future.

This place was really incredible. Any question I had about the property was immediately addressed! The kids loved the game room. Everyone was comfortable and we felt very safe even with our 3 year old. You can tell they took a lot of attention to every detail to make it a pleasant experience for children and adults!

We had a great stay,the property was fantastic and the large garden was great for the kids to run around in. There is loads to do in the local area and 2 weeks was mot long enough to see it all!

Jochen's holiday house was a comfortable place to stay away from the throngs of tourists but still be close enough to Monschau for us to visit it as often as we wanted.
The food around us was good, the pizza restaurant was excellent and extremely affordable. We've gotten a taste for Bitburger beer, thanks to Jochen's introduction to it and we will be buying it at home from now on too.
The house is amazing, a great place to spend a day when it's raining with all the games to play with the family and we really unwound.
The neighbourhood was beautiful, neat, clean and very friendly - everyone we met greeted us.
Our only gripe is that we can't move there permanently.
Other things we did were to go to Aachen's cathedral, the Lindt factory, Monschau and the local waffle shop at the abandoned rail (with the rail bikes) which was a short walk across the border into Belgium.
