La Parenthèse

La Parenthèse is extremely well located in the heart of Amboise's village. You walk out the street access door and you're in the midst of the old town. It really is an amazing location. The villa itself is secluded off the street and is quiet and private; plus, we were happy that the walled yard allowed us to store our rented bikes without worry. Inside, the main room worked well for cooking and relaxing by watching TV or listening to music. The bedroom(s) upstairs were quite comfortable as well. We appreciated that there are windows that slide open for fresh air. Finally, when we had questions, Marion was always quick to reply to our messages via Booking.com.

We wished that our kit provided would have provided more toilet paper, but that was a minor issue - and one that was easily resolved with a quick trip to the Carrefour grocery store, just a two-minute walk from the villa. The only thing that people should be aware of is that the stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep and, because there's no water service available upstairs, some "preplanning" at bedtime is suggested :)

The apartment was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Everything was super clean and all the instructions to enter the property were very clear and straight forward. The host was very responsive, helpful and friendly.

We have just spent a week at La Parenthèse. I will start my review with the positives, because there are some. The apartment is in a fantastic location being on the main pedestrian street of Amboise, but in spite of that it is quiet because it’s back from the street. It has a nice patio area and the kitchen/living area is very comfortable. The bathroom is bright and modern.

However, there are a number of negatives. We have NEVER stayed in accommodation where you are expected to make up your own bed with sheets, pillow cases and doona covers. Not what we needed at the end of a long day of travelling. And the bed itself is only a double bed, so quite narrow, and the mattress is very uncomfortable. Sleep is also difficult because of the intrusive noise of the AC. In addition, there is nothing provided - no tea bags, no coffee pods, no sugar, no milk, no shampoo, no soap save hand wash on the sink, and I suspect the washing powder was provided by a previous resident. There were 2 toilet rolls provided for our one week stay, so obviously we had to go out and buy more. And remember if you need any supplies on a Sunday afternoon the supermarket will be closed. But the real problem is the stair case - it has been mentioned in previous reviews, but it is worth repeating. It is nothing short of dangerous. It is very, very steep and the stairs themselves are quite deep. It is deceptive not to show the stairs in any of the photos advertising this accommodation. As the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs it is necessary to climb down in the night. I chose to always come down backwards (as on a ladder) to ensure I had four points of contact at all times. It is that steep. And we are fortunate enough to be reasonably fit over 70’s but if you have any mobility issues this is not the place for you to stay. It is also worth noting that the second bedroom is accessed through the first bedroom, so only really suitable for families or friends you are very comfortable sharing with.
