    Grim's Dyke has a very impressive exterior and grounds. The main building is a beautiful period property with lots of character inside and out. Staff very friendly and helpful. The actual rooms in the separate building however are very tired and in need of rejuvenation. Room was cold on arrival and you can see daylight in between some of the window frames. Heating did kick in and was boosted by the manager when we mentioned it at reception. Beds were comfy, shower very underpowered. Clean enough and excellent breakfast, surroundings, location and parking all great, but would be vastly improved by renovating the rooms.

    Evening check in person didn’t even smile and seemed very unimpressed with her job. I paid for a simple room (which was quite dated) but the bed was super comfy and there was lots of powerful hot water in the shower which I was grateful for. Breakfast looked meh so I’m glad I didn’t pay extra for it. There was plenty of coffee and tea in the room. I was all excited to explore the grounds in the morning but a different person on desk knew nothing about the walks and trails which seemed like a wasted opportunity for the hotel. There was really zero staff/guest interaction which I think was also a missed opportunity for a hotel that has so much potential. The grounds were beautiful but definitely in the middle of nowhere so be prepared to walk, bus or drive.
