Porta nuova home

Location, location. Right near the gate in “old” Colle Alta and a few doors up from Pasticceria Mario Barone where you can get probably the best pastries I’ve ever had! Also close to the stop for the 201 and 202 buses. Several good restaurants very close by, generally serving Tuscan dishes. (There’s also actually a Michelin 2-star restaurant in town that we didn’t try.) Short 15” walk to the center of town, “Colle Basso”, where most of the commerce is located. It’s a longer walk back home from there, maybe 20”, so you can walk off some of your gelato… The apartment has a pretty complete kitchen, though we never cooked there, and really everything you might need. Also, Serena was especially helpful to us when we missed our bus stop, which we deeply appreciated. We would definitely want to stay there again when we’re back in town!

We found that we were uncomfortable on the mattress (on the double bed). The upstairs bathroom had a very objectionable odor that Serena has apparently now remedied. We just used the downstairs bathroom for showers instead.

The accommodation was very comfortable, located in a quiet building at the corner of one of the historic side streets of the city, just a few steps away from the main route. We used it as a base and meeting point for five friends during several days of trips around the city and its surroundings. Both the building and the neighborhood were clean and peaceful, and even at night no noise from the street could be heard inside. The apartment is equipped with all the essential amenities, including a dishwasher and a washing machine, as well as two bathrooms with showers, which meant there were no queues during the morning routine. There is also a fast internet connection strong enough for several devices streaming films at the same time. I believe I will return to the city again in the future, and this apartment will definitely be at the top of my list.

The apartment only offers views into a narrow street, towards the upper floors of the buildings opposite and the rooftops. A view on the other side, overlooking the countryside and the city, would elevate the apartment to a truly top-level experience.

Alloggio molto bello , ben tenuto , spazioso e pulito. Posizione ottima, all’interno del borgo e a pochi metri da un comodo parcheggio. Nelle vicinanze ampia scelta di ottimi ristoranti raggiungibili a piedi . Un grazie anche a Serena host gentilissima e disponibile.

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful home with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed several good restaurants in town and the fabulous pastry shop just down the street. This is a great home base for exploring the surrounding area. We had a rental car so appreciated the nearby free parking lot just outside the gate.

It was a bit stressful having to provide an exact check-in time after a long international flight, rental car pickup and driving on unfamiliar roads. A lockbox for self check-in would be easier. That being said, it was lovely to meet Serena in person and get several helpful tips for our stay.
