The linen is maintained by a laundry.

A bit of history: The night of June 5 to June 6, 1944, an American parachutist Clifford A. Maugham, of the 505th PIR of the 82nd US Airborne Division, lands in the garden of this house at 1:45. The house, then occupied by a tired German officer from Russia, coexisted with the Monnier family. In the night of din due to the bombings, to the noise of the planes, M. Monnier with his wife and daughter went to take shelter in the trench at the end of the garden when a paratrooper fell beside them and stuck with them in the trench ... The German officer having seen everything, came flying his rifle over the American. Mr. Monnier, spontaneously, interposed between the two men who ended up talking to each other calmly, the German officer having understood that the Americans were everywhere! The French family spent these incredible few hours with these 2 enemies who finally respected each other. Maughan distributed chocolates, chewing gum and cigarettes (even in German). The American finally took the German and took him prisoner. He promised the German and the family not to kill him. After farewells and thanks to the family, the German was then taken with other prisoners.
The Monnier girl saw Maughan again on the 40th anniversary of the landing and remembered this memory forever engraved in their memories.

The house is magnificent and in the center of town. Truly a piece of history. It has a large picturesque yard that is very private. It came well equipped. We had a small problem with the bedding and heating but it didn't diminish the over all experience.

Visiting the Normandy Beaches has been my husband’s dream for decades. He planned to visit with his brother when they retired but his brother never made it to retirement. We had plans to visit with our eldest daughter and her husband in March 2020 but COVID cancelled those plans. Now, in his mid-70s and living with Parkinson’s Disease for the last 19 years, going to the Normandy Beaches seemed impossible but then it wasn't. With a lot of planning, this dream has now been realized, beyond my husband’s expectations, as his 4 children and best friends joined him on this epic adventure. There were 14 in our group of family and friends. We had 2 homes on the square. We stayed at Le Gite de la Liberte, a hugely fantastic part of this trip. Just to be in Sainte-Mere-Eglise was brilliant. But to be on the square and facing the church was beyond belief. The house is fabulous. Beautifully decorated, well equipped, spacious and perfect for our group of 9 adults. The garden was wonderful for relaxing in the sun and chatting. We never used the living room. We typically hung out in the kitchen or sometimes the dining room. The house is close to everything. Literally a few minutes walk away from the boulangerie, restaurants, shops and the Airborne museum. The highlight of this trip was the WWII jeep tour. The Normandy Jeep Tours company is across the square from the house. A wonderful place to stay that will keep alive in our memories for a long time to come.

We made a late booking of this property and we were unsure about the cafe in the front garden. We need not have worried. It had no impact on us at all. The GF windows have net curtains and are double glazed. Our access to the house was via the back garden to the rear yard or to the alley to the side of the house. The house was very spacious and comfortable for our extended family of 11. The town was charming, busy with tourists by day but very quiet after 9.30pm. The history of the town during the war was interesting and the Airborne Museum well worth a trip. We enjoyed the beaches both sides of the peninsular, canoeing, Bayeux for the tapestry and exploring the Marais. A successful holiday and we would thoroughly recommend this house.

We absolutely loved our stay in St Mere Eglise! The house fit 10 of us so comfortably and the back yard was great. Being right in middle of the town was amazing . Such a great week!
