About this house rental
Quiet rural property, perfect country retreat; house is nestled in wooded hillside, olive and almond groves, with panoramic views to the white village of Gaucin & Bermeja mountains. Situated at 640m altitude, it benefits from cool evening breezes in summer. It is accessed by a country road in good condition. Less than a 10 minute drive from the lively working village of Gaucin, with its many restaurants and bars, charming village festivals, a thriving artistic community, and the gorgeous castle with a 360º view of the area.
The two-story house is a recent renovation of an agricultural building, with a variety of outdoor living spaces! Stone floors throughout, 3 terraces, 2 wood-burning stoves, ample firewood, lovely natural gardens. Ground floor: kitchen/dining room, fireplace, covered porch with outdoor living area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, utility porch w/ washing machine. First floor: Living room with flatscreen TV & wireless internet, sofa-bed, 2 spacious terraces, 1 bedroom (queen) with lovely view of Gaucin, en suite bathroom.
A rental car is recommended. During the rainy season, 4 wheel drive is recommended.
Trips can be arranged to Seville, Granada and Cádiz/Tarifa.
Pick up from and delivery to the Malaga or Gibraltar airports can also be arranged.

Overall, we enjoyed our family vacation to Gaucin. The property was just as described -- unbelievable views, comfortable amenities, and fun pool. Nancy had warned that the property was not particularly baby friendly (unfenced pool, etc.), but we had enough supervision to evade any real danger. Indeed, the house had some rural quirks like insects, slow plumbing, mosquitos, etc. But, those quirks were a small price for the unfiltered access to the natural surroundings. The property manager, Esther, was very responsive and helpful (she rented us highchair/crib). We also found the house's green "guidebook" instrumental in orientating us to Gaucin, Andalusia, and everything the local area has to offer.

Hemos estado una semana en Julio algunos familiares. Ibamos con dos niños que han disfrutado mucho. El sitio es inmejorable, apartado, tranquilo, y con unas vistas increíbles a Gaucín y su castillo. Como ponían el camino tiene un tramo algo peor, pero hemos pasado sin problema con turismos normales. La comunicación tanto con Nancy como con Esther, muy buenas, han atendido todas nuestras dudas. Limpieza, el menaje necesario, las camas muy cómodas, aire en las habitaciones, aunque al ser una casa reformada, de muros gruesos, es bastante fresca. Una experiencia para repetir, sin dudarlo.

Rosa Alta is a beautiful villa nestling on a hillside looking out on the pretty town of Gaucin. The views from the villa (and pool) are just stunning, looking across a valley to to the town and ruined castle (about a mile and a half away) - close enough to walk to (if you're feeling fit - it's very hilly!) but far enough away for complete privacy. Climb the hill behind the villa and get more spectacular views to the South, including Gibraltar and the North African coast in the far distance.
The villa blends in beautifully with the olive trees, pomegranates and almonds in the grounds, and is great spot for watching wildlife (eagles, bee eaters, swifts, lizards, geckos, wild boar etc etc etc).
We'd not experienced a salt water pool before, but it was just great. The villa was also very well equipped with efficient air conditioning in the 3 bedrooms, good wifi, and a nice kitchen (bigger than we were expecting, based on the photos, although note that there is no dishwasher). There's also a nice living area on the first floor with a decent size TV (not used, as the weather was so good!). Outside, there's a lovely brick-built BBQ and so many areas to sit and watch the world go by. There are sunny and shaded areas at all times of the day, which was just lovely. One thing to note is that the tracks from the Gaucin road leading to the property are pretty bumpy, although this really wasn't an issue for our hire car (a Vauxhall Mokka), once we'd got used to them.
Gaucin has some a couple of small supermarkets and some very nice restaurants, and it's a pretty short drive (~1 hour) to Ronda, which is touristy in comparison, but well worth a visit. So many other options for daytrips, including caves with pre-historic cave paintings, zoos, Gibraltar and the coast etc etc
This really is a perfect family escape - we were very sad to leave, and are hoping to return in the future
