Thank you Gianfranco for a wonderful stay! Taking the time to personally greet his guests at the pier and guide us to his BnB was an extra touch I hadn’t expected though was appreciated. He was very helpful to share a local map via WhatsApp so that it was easier to find our way around, also providing recommendations on how to take local transportation and which restaurants were open during a holiday next day.
The room was spacious and had all the amenities I could ask for, plenty of hangers and storage space, extra pillows, an in-room safe, you can tell he takes much care of his accommodations, adding a dehumidifier in the bathroom since the building is partially set into the mountain and even with a regular ventilator it can be humid. Great water pressure and shower, clean, sizeable towels. Bidet available.
Accommodations spotlessly clean, sheets and blanket was warm enough for the chillier nights (in mid-April), pillows were fabulous (memory foam!) The bed was comfortable and set under a retractable sun window, which was great to let in the evening breeze. Regular and usb outlets next to the bed for charging devices. Plenty of lighting, tv worked well. Good wifi.
Electric kettle, instant coffee and tea, and a couple tea cups available in the room. Expressly written in the rules that cooking in the rooms is not allowed, which is fine for me. Minibar with drinks available. Some people mentioned that there were a lot of rules, they seemed mostly common sense and pretty straightforward requests of a proprietor who’s very careful and thoughtful.
Like others have mentioned it’s a bit of a climb up some winding stairs up to the hotel which wasn’t too bad if you are in moderate shape. I planned ahead and didn’t bring a carryon, personally I wouldn’t recommend bringing more than a carry on up these stairs, unless you’re in terrific shape and I did see others with large luggage.
If there was one recommendation I make—it’d be to mention on the hotel listings websites that terrace access is seasonal. I booked this accommodation in part for the terrace view. This didn’t end up being a concern because the view was similar from the front entrance and the rest of the Amalfi coast has plenty of amazing views.

I loved the staff; Gianfranco was brilliant. He puts a lot of effort into everything. Our transport was canceled, and he made sure we were okay getting there. Lovely room and area.
Only issue is there are a few of steps, but not to much of a worry.

Casa Mao is a beautiful gem. The owner, Gianfranco, was friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. His English is excellent, he met us in the central piazza, and he even helped us figure out how to get into and out of Amalfi when the ferries cancelled all sailings on both days we were travelling. Casa Mao is recently renovated exceptionally well, the views are gorgeous, and the huge room we had was as comfortable as a 5 star hotel. It contains sculptures done by the proprietor's grandfather, more of which you can also find in public places around the local area, giving this boutique hotel a warm, authentic touch. Amalfi is a town built on the sides of mountains so you will need to walk up steps to get to Casa Mao, but if that is an issue for you, you really should not stay in Amalfi. Even if you can find a hotel in Amalfi that does not require going up stairs, coming to Amalfi and staying at sea level is like "enjoying" the Eiffel Tower from the ground. Amalfi must be admired from above, and Casa Mao is the perfect place to do that.
