About this cottage rental

This is a beautifully converted Coach House situated in the hamlet of St Aubin de Bonneval - offering a quiet, safe and family friendly environment for a totally relaxing and stress-free holiday.

The Coach House is very spacious, conveniently arranged for family living and furnished to a high standard. Exposed beams and wood floors lend warmth and charm to the cottage atmosphere. This accommodation has a large secluded rear garden with outdoor dinning terrace and barbecue facilities, and fronted by a driveway with private parking for 2 cars

The Coach House is part of - but secluded and totally separate from - the old village Priory where its English owners live. The Priory's 2 beautiful Lorraine donkeys are your only visible neighbours (greeting you every morning over the garden fence) And the owners are always on hand (if required) to offer local knowledge, help and advice.
St Aubin is situated at the crossroads of Calvados, the Orne and the Eure and offers easy access to all the region’s tourists activities. The local town of Orbec with its restaurants, bars and shopping facilities is within seven minutes drive. A further 10 minutes will bring you to the delightful river town of Bernay - famous for its Farmers' Market, Antique Shops and a wide selection of Bars and Restaurants.

For lovers of street markets - antique flea markets and food - the immediate region provides countless opportunities on a daily basis during the season (April to October) The owners have an antique business and a regular presence in the local markets. They are always on hand to advise guests on the location of the markets (brocantes) and what to look out for.

St Aubin is also within a 45 minutes drive of the delightful and historic coastal towns of Deauville. Trouville and Honfleur and magnificent white sandy beaches of the region. Plus a world class golf course and horse racing venue in Deauville.

For guests wanting to spend the day in Paris, travel is easy - only 1 hour 15 minutes by fast train from Bernay

The owner of the Coach House is a keen Fly Fisherman and can arrange Fly Fishing on a 3km private stretch of the Risle, Normandy's premiere chalk stream for trout.

Wonderful owners, who welcomed us and gave us our privacy. Donky domino is in our kids hearts. The space is light and pleasant, both downstairs (do note the lower beams) and upstairs (which was alway cool — unusual and pleasant for these buildings). Garden provides ample opportunity to catch some sunshine.

We had great holiday at the coach house. It provided us with a good base from where we could explore Normandy. An hour from the beaches at deauville and wonderful little towns were within 30 minutes. Kadi was very helpful with tips about restaurants and places to visit. The property had a great open plan living area and the bedrooms upstairs were more than adequate. It had a great enclosed garden for the children to play in and the added bonus of the donkeys in the next plot, the kids loved feeding them carrots every day!

Great communication with English speaking owners who are very friendly and helpful both before we arrived and during our stay. The coach house is beautiful and old with wonky sloping floors upstairs, plenty of space and lovely old beams. Nobody lives in the attached part of the property so we didn’t have to worry about the kids being noisy. We arrived and the kids were straight out into the garden where Domino the donkey came over to greet us with a very quiet attempt at a bray! A lovely welcome! Derek and Domino the donkeys at the bottom of the garden were a massive hit with the kids. The highlight of our daughters holiday was being taken into their field to stroke them! The master, double and twin rooms all have views out towards the donkeys. Very quiet hamlet. Really easy drive from Calais euro tunnel. Roads so quiet and empty. Took us 3 hours 15. There were two tolls both of about 8.5 euros. Machines take cards and are easy to use. On the way home we stopped at Le Crotoy in the Somme bay for our picnic lunch. Pleasant town to stretch our legs, have an ice cream and use the loos. We did a fair few miles in the car during our stay but location of the property meant we could reach the north coast and also Paris. We did day trips to Trueville (lovely sandy beach, 1.5 hrs) Bayeux and Arromamches, (1.5 hrs) Versailles (2 and a quarter hours) , Paris (by train from Bernay takes 1.5 hrs) crevecoeur with medieval joust (45 mins) Book a timed passport ticket if you’re going to Versailles (saved us a massive queue). If you want to go up the Eiffel Tower jump the queue type tickets go on sale something like 5 weeks in advance. Orbec is 15 mins away and has a carrefourre market (middle sized supermarket with petrol opposite) and a high street with several boulangeries and green grocer and small spar. Several shops/ restaurants were shut for their summer holiday. NB Bring a hair dryer if you want one. Restaurants don’t open until 7pm unless you are somewhere very touristy There is no razor socket so bring an extra adapter. Electricity bill wasn’t an issue Had to be out by 10am for cleaner. The Church bells (next to the property) do chime the hour and half past but stop over night so you get a good nights sleep. There’s a green gauge tree with branches that overhang the car park space - yummy!! Saw bats, swallows (lots of other birds) and deer Don’t forget to buy some carrots for the donkeys.

The property was absolutely perfect for our needs, great layout and good location, Orbec being 10 minutes drive away for all local conveniences. The owners were lovely and more than accommodating during our stay. We had a childs 15th birthday during and Kim was very kind and helpful in liaising with a Boulangerie in Orbec who didnt speak any English, to organise a birthday cake.I will miss waking up and walking into the garden with a coffee to have a chat with Derek the donkey in the adjacent field.Lovely stay, very nice owners, already planning a return trip, what more can I say !!Thank you Kim and Kadi
