I regrettably booked an economy room. When we were brought down to the basement, the room smelt of damp. There is very little natural light, there is a door that opens onto a shared patio which is basically just an alleyway alongside the hotel that they've put some chairs on to.
We were woken up at 2:30am by the guest next door having a conversation on loudspeaker which continued until 3:15am when we went up to reception to ask the receptionist to tell him to shut up.
Eventually getting back asleep, we were then woken up by breakfast as these bedrooms are directly underneath the breakfast room, so you are awoken by chairs scraping across the ceiling.
Breakfast was abysmal and poor quality. It's laid out like a buffet, but you have to queue up and point out what you want. There is no cooked food apart from a bowl of boiled eggs that will run out. The quality of the food was so poor, I've never had an egg that tasted of nothing or cheese that tasted of nothing. I think the only reason they're setting breakfast up this way is because they don't want guests to fill up their plates and they want to save money. Anyway, the food was so bad we didn't bother the next morning and went for breakfast in a cafe instead.
After having such a horrible night sleep in the dungeon room, we requested to upgrade which I paid 45 extra for the privilege of actually being able to go to sleep. That room was fine. Another guest the next morning came up from the basement and similarly requested for his basement room to be changed. Those bedrooms are not liveable and the hotel should not be selling them.
The staff are all really lovely and kind and the only good thing about this hotel.
