Very clean hotel, staff very friendly and location perfect for catching public transportation. The view of Lake Lugano from the breakfast room was simply beautiful.

This hotel is only suitable if you’re doing a short trip and basically just need a place to sleep. The property has a lot of potential — a beautiful lake view and a short walk to the city center — but it really needs a full renovation. It feels neglected; for example, the curtain in my room had fallen down, the cleanliness wasn’t great, and the décor is, honestly, very tacky. The staff was okay, but there isn’t much they can offer in terms of services or amenities. What I did appreciate was that the bathroom had been recently refurbished and included a bathtub, which many other hotels no longer provide. You can pay 10 CHF for breakfast, which includes unlimited coffee and a tray of food. It’s basic, but in Lugano you won’t find anything at that price. The hotel also provides the Ticino Ticket, which allows free public transport and discounts, and that was definitely a plus.

I always try to avoid writing bad reviews but unfortunately this hotel being dated is the least of the problems. They were very nice in accommodating 3 of us in one room with an extra charge and we were excited as the location is great, however upon arrival, we were greeted by a herd of ants coming out from the wall. We instantly informed the receptionist who comes with a vacuum and says the cleaners will spray it in about an hour. We wanted to change rooms but were informed the hotel was fully booked. I will say that the cleaners did partially resolve the issue as we didn’t see many ants after that point, but there is clearly an infestation behind the wall so it needs to be dealt with professionally. Secondly, the hotel as I mentioned is dated. It’s beautiful but very old and they don’t have motion lights so at night you are left in the dark in the corridor until you reach the elevator which I will say is rather scary. Furthermore, everything is quite dusty and old including the bed and bedding so my back was uncomfortable the whole night and I felt myself coughing a lot. Thirdly, the security aspect concerns me as the door to the hotel opens whenever without a key and the lift and staircase are open to everyone so it’s not the safest in my opinion. Last but not least, there was a rather musty smell in the bathroom as the drains kept giving off a sewer smell and also the lights kept flickering. Overall, it felt like I was staying in a haunted house. The receptionist was really nice and did try her best but other than her, I didn’t see a single employee so I can’t comment on the rest. I think management needs to address these issues because as mentioned, this hotel has the potential to be so beautiful.
