Region: A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Town: The thriving village of Minsterley lies in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, just 10 miles from the medieval town of Shrewsbury. Minsterley boasts a pub, one of the oldest buildings in the village, a shop and Post Office and an excellent fish and chip shop! The village of Pontesbury is just one mile away and offers further amenities, including takeaways and restaurants, plus Arscott Golf Club, Springlea Fishing Pools and the Pontesbury cycle/footpath. Close by is The Long Mynd, which is a haven for walkers and wildlife watchers and provides a convenient place to relax and take in the wonderful scenery on offer. One of England's finest heritage towns with over 600 listed buildings, Shrewsbury nestles on a loop of the River Severn. Admire the pretty cobbled alleys and squares and enjoy the many festivals on offer including Shrewsbury's Summer Season. Shrewsbury has a magnificent Abbey founded in 1083, as well as Shrewsbury Castle, which stands in beautiful gardens and grounds and is home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum. There are plenty of interesting things to do in the area with the National Trust's Attingham Park, Wroxeter Roman City, the museums at Ironbridge, the castle and Michelin starred restaurant of Ludlow and Acton Scott working farm, as featured in the Victorian Farm TV series, this lovely village is the perfect touring spot for your Shropshire adventure.
