About this cottage rental

Tucked away in the pretty village of Shipham, this spacious and thoughtfully designed hideaway is a lovely spot to enjoy a holiday on the edge of the beautiful Mendip Hills, tucked away between the hills and the sea. The former hay loft sleeps four guests, and welcomes one furry companion, who has a shared dog paddock. Your tranquil retreat is surrounded by ten acres of countryside, where you can see horses grazing in the fields and wildlife galore. Shipham has a village shop and a welcoming traditional pub, both within a few minutes walk. There is also a village hall with a small children’s play area and a football pitch. The nearby village of Winscombe (1.5 miles) has a good array of shops, cafes, takeaways and a pub. Cheddar Gorge (3 miles), Wookey Hole (8.5 miles) and Wells (10 miles) are must-sees. There are miles of traffic free paths from Shipham, through beautiful forests and open hillsides, which make walking a pleasure.


External stairs lead to this exceptionally spacious, bright and airy open-plan living space, all on one floor, with tranquil rural views from windows throughout. The sitting area houses cosy sofas with throws, a pretty vintage chair and the Smart TV, together with a delightful country-style table and chairs. The well-fitted kitchen sits at the far end, and there’s a useful utility cupboard. After a day of country air, retire for a good night’s sleep in the two inviting bedrooms, a double with an en-suite bathroom and a twin with an en-suite shower room. Both have tranquil country views; on a clear day, you can see glimpses of Weston-Super-Mare from the twin room. There are beautiful, countryside and forest views from most windows and the light floods in throughout the day. From the kitchen and living room windows you can see the horses being exercised in the arena below.


Outside, step down from a flight of external stairs to an enclosed and private courtyard garden. With outdoor furniture and pretty planting, this is perfect for a quiet drink or meal. Your pet, who has his or her own special, shared paddock, can join you after their restorative dog wash.
