About this house rental

Summary:

Located on Moreton-in-Marsh’s High Street, Dereham Cottage is your perfect Cotswold base. This charming retreat blends period character with modern comfort, featuring a cosy fireplace for relaxing after a day of exploring local markets and nearby villages. Whether you’re sipping coffee on the High Street or unwinding in the private courtyard, it’s an ideal spot for couples or friends to soak up the laid-back pace of Cotswold life. Everything you need is right on your doorstep.

The Space:

Kitchen and Dining

You’ve got a well-equipped kitchen for slow breakfasts and easy suppers after a day out. You can cook together, pop the kettle on, and keep everything simple with the essentials close to hand. You can also open the French doors straight out to the courtyard when you fancy drinks outside.

Living room

You’ll switch off in the cosy lounge with two comfy sofas, a fireplace, and a Smart TV for easy evenings in. You can warm up after a winter walk or put your feet up after dinner on the High Street. It’s relaxed, homely, and made for proper downtime.

Bedrooms

You’ll sleep up to 4 across two bedrooms: a double on the first floor and a twin on the top floor. You’ll find quality Simba and Hypnos mattresses, plus fresh linen and towels, so you can settle in and sleep well. It’s ideal for couples or friends who want comfort and a great base.

Outdoor space

You’ve got a private west-facing courtyard with outdoor furniture - perfect for morning coffee or a sunset drink. You can take a quiet breather here between outings, even though you’re right in the heart of Moreton-in-Marsh.

Practical bits

You’ll have superfast fibre broadband for remote working or streaming. You’ll check yourself in via lockbox (your code is sent before arrival). You can park for free on the street outside.

Important to note

You’ll be staying in a historic cottage set over three floors, and the stairs up to the top-floor twin bedroom are very steep. It’s best suited to adults and isn’t recommended for infants/young children or guests with mobility restrictions.

Local recommendations

* Lynwood & Co (breakfast/brunch): Start your day with great coffee and a proper brunch, then wander the High Street shops at your own pace.

* Cotswolds village-hopping: You’re perfectly placed for a day out in Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water - independent shops, pretty streets, and an easy lunch stop.

* An easy circular walk: Try the Moreton-in-Marsh to Batsford Arboretum circular walk for a relaxed countryside loop, then come back to light the fire and open the French doors to the courtyard for a post-walk drink.

Guest Access:

We'll send you all the access details through our booking platform before your arrival, so you can settle in at your own pace.

The Neighborhood:

You’re perfectly placed to enjoy all Moreton-in-Marsh has to offer. The town is full of Cotswolds character, with independent shops, antique finds, cosy tea rooms and welcoming pubs - all an easy stroll away.

Market day (Tuesdays)

On Tuesdays, Moreton’s famous street market takes over the High Street - one of the largest in the Cotswolds. Expect local produce, crafts, treats and a proper market-day buzz.

Easy without a car

The High Street and railway station are around a 10-minute walk from the cottage, with direct trains to Oxford, London Paddington and Worcester - ideal for a car-free break or easy day trips.

Perfect base for exploring

Stow-on-the-Wold (4 miles): antiques and historic market square

Bourton-on-the-Water (8 miles): the “Venice of the Cotswolds”

Broadway (9 miles): picture-perfect streets and Broadway Tower

Chipping Campden (10 miles): classic Cotswolds charm

Blenheim Palace (20 miles): a memorable day out

Walking & countryside

You’re also well placed for countryside rambles and scenic trails nearby - rolling hills, honey-stone villages, and that “proper Cotswolds” feeling from the moment you arrive.

Getting Around:

By Train

Moreton-in-Marsh railway station is just a 5-minute walk away, with direct services to Oxford, London Paddington, Worcester, and Hereford. It's one of the best-connected stations in the Cotswolds, making this an ideal base for car-free holidays or combining your Cotswolds stay with a London trip.

By Bus

Regular bus services run from Moreton-in-Marsh to popular Cotswolds destinations:

Pulhams Coaches Route 801 connects to Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Norton, and Cheltenham (Monday-Saturday)

Pulhams Coaches Route 606 runs to Broadway, Winchcombe, and Cheltenham

Stagecoach Routes 1 and 2 serve Blockley, Broadway, and Evesham (Monday-Saturday)

Please note: Most bus services don't run on Sundays.

By Car

Free on-street parking is available on the High Street (outside peak hours). From here, you're within easy driving distance of:

Stow-on-the-Wold (10 minutes)

Bourton-on-the-Water (15 minutes)

On Foot

Other Things to Note:

You’re staying in a truly characterful cottage that’s over 300 years old, so you’ll find all the lovely quirks that come with a historic Cotswolds home (uneven floors, lower ceilings in places, and a cosy cottage layout across three floors).

Stairs: The stairs up to the top-floor twin bedroom are very steep and narrow. For that reason, the cottage isn’t suitable for infants/young children, or for guests with mobility restrictions.

Interaction with Guests:

We've designed everything around making your stay as smooth and independent as possible. You'll have complete self check-in - we'll send you all the access details through our booking platform before you arrive, so you can settle in at your own pace without waiting around for anyone.

That said, we're always here when you need us. Our team responds to messages within an hour during business hours, and we provide 24-hour emergency support throughout your stay.
