Crash in Cash’s Room
In the early hours of May 11, 1965, after a concert at Mississippi State University, Johnny Cash checked into Room 22 at the Far Out Motel. Later that night, he was arrested for public drunkenness after picking flowers from a local yard, an incident that landed him in the Oktibbeha County Jail and inspired his song “Starkville City Jail.”
In the song, Cash even mentions staying at a motel before his arrest, that motel was ours, and is still here, preserved with a nod to the history that unfolded within its walls.
Now, you can book a night in the same room where the Man in Black stayed, a unique piece of music lore right here in Starkville.
