We booked this hostel last minute for one night. When we booked online, no instructions were provided as to how to enter the building. The hostel is just a regular apartment building with some rooms for short term stays. When we arrived, it turned out several other people were booked for the same room and that there was no place for any of us to stay. When we called the contact number, provided on Agoda, the property manager was not helpful and informed us she did not speak English (apparently her and the other tenants in the apartment building all spoke Portuguese). It was very strange. After long disputes, the woman came to the building and we were proposed to stay in a private apartment somewhere else in the city. We were told that a taxi would come and get us, but then the woman tried to convince us to go in her private car. We felt unsafe and ended up asking to be reimbursed for the night. She paid us back in cash. The whole experience was terrible, the situation was sketchy and we were relieved to not end up staying the night. We don't know what happened to the others who booked the same hostel.
