Good clean hotel

Very good price for the area, especially for a booking made two days before staying on a Saturday. The hotel is a little tricky to find, but easy enough with a sat nav. The area is quiet and there seems to be parking available outside. The only real issue is the parking system. You need to check in and then pay at a machine inside the hotel. You register your car and pay separately (£3 for 12 hours, £5 for 24 hours, can’t recall the rest). The lady at reception was excellent – very friendly and explained everything clearly. Also offered us water with a slice of lemon. Check-in was straightforward, even at 22:00 on a Saturday night. It seems quite a distance from Washington, but we arrived late so didn’t notice the surroundings much. It was very easy to head south on the A1 the next morning. The rooms are in a separate building opposite reception. Nothing spectacular, but recently redecorated and clean. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, decent shower, and new towels. And good water pressure. No air-con or electric heater, only a storage heater, so I’m not sure how warm it gets in very cold months. Nice new TV. The room was quiet, possibly because there weren’t many guests, but the windows also seemed to block noise well. Overall, I would recommend it and would stay again. If you have a problem with parking you can probably also park outside of the hotel's parking for free, or in walking distance there were a couple of other parkings. Good value for money, especially compared with the high prices in Sunderland at the time.

Room decor could do with some freshening up, was a bit tired and drab but good size and clean. Hadn’t realised that onsite parking was not included so with two cars our stay was not as economical as expected.
