The host's excellent service was definitely the highlight of the experience. From the detailed information shared before check-in about the place and useful information and places in the village to the promptness, effectiveness and kindness throughout the days. Although we did not meet him in person, Takis was always available and kind to us, ensuring we had a comfortable stay. By far, the best host we have ever had.
We really enjoyed the local products we were offered and appreciated the gesture. But the host was also quick to find solutions and resolve minor issues and inconveniences, such as a broken toilet seat, which was fixed a couple of days later (though, not least, we could sit better), or the morning noise from construction work in the building.
Considering the limited connections to the island in winter and the late arrival of the ferry, the accommodation's location could not have been more convenient. In addition, the flexibility of self-check-in made it very suitable for the situation.
We really appreciated the host's recommendation for a local car rental company, which proved to be great service at a great price.
If we had to rate the hospitality and service alone, 10 wouldn't be fair!
We didn't appreciate the non-refundable booking policy. On an island with limited access in winter, with few boats and constant strong winds that force ferry cancellations, it was risky to make a non-refundable booking. Maybe needed to be searched more than a month before, but again, the weather forecasts are only reliable a week in advance. This forced us to wait until the last minute, when we would have preferred to book in advance to make it less stressful.
The rooms were not as soundproofed as we hoped for. Perhaps we were a bit unlucky with our neighbours, but it was quite easy to hear conversations, laughter and electronic devices. Unfortunately, our experience was significantly affected by this, as we had constant disturbing noises throughout every single day till very late hours during the night. And, on the first few mornings, we were woken up at 8 a.m. by construction work in the building and nearby. However, the host promptly resolved this, for which we were grateful.
There was some dampness on the ceiling above the kitchen counter and wardrobe area, where water was also running down the walls. In the mornings, the clothes were humid and damp. Not ideal, where we are about to leave for a hike. We understood that, due to the season and the particular situation of recent severe weather events, the island was more prone to these problems, but it was still inconvenient nonetheless.
The bathroom was somewhat small and difficult to dry after showering, leaving moisture on the floor. There was a good-sized window, but it looked out onto a dirty corner of the walls, which didn't help. The window itself was a bit dirty, and since it was above the toilet, it wasn't ideal. Also, keeping it open, we could smell sewage from the pipes that ran down in that corner, and using the kitchen extractor fan meant that the smell reached the bathroom.
