Welcome to this historic and characterful Grade II listed cottage nestled in the stunning Vale of Grasmere, at the heart of the English Lake District. Dating back to 1688, this charming retreat serves as an excellent base for walkers, hikers, bikers, and all adventurous souls looking to explore the majestic Lakeland fells. With its simple, rustic style, the cottage boasts original features that reflect its storied past, offering a cozy and authentic experience. Heating is provided by storage heaters, which may take up to 24 hours to fully warm up, adding a touch of charm to this historic home. Expect some delightful quirks that remind you of its age and character!
After a day of adventure, there’s plenty of space to store muddy boots and damp coats. Step into a spacious living area, adorned with exposed timbers, where you can relax on the comfortable sofa and armchairs by the open fireplace. Enjoy modern conveniences like TV and Wi-Fi during your stay. Gather around the dining table to share meals, or cook up a feast in the fully-fitted kitchen, equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, and washing machine for freshening up any muddy clothes. Accommodating up to six guests, the cottage features three well-presented first-floor bedrooms: one king-size room and two additional twin rooms, alongside a separate family bathroom.
Conveniently located within walking distance of Grasmere Village—once home to the famous William and Dorothy Wordsworth—you’ll find an array of shops, pubs, and cafes, including a great restaurant just ten minutes away. Numerous walking routes lead from your doorstep, including the scenic paths along the west shore of Grasmere Lake and along tranquil Greenburn. With no motorboats allowed, the lake is perfect for swimming, rowing, and paddleboarding. The iconic Lakeland Fells offer some of the best high-altitude walks in England, with Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, and Helvellyn just a short distance away.
