About this house rental

Welcome to Hale Mauka, our "home in the mountains". Our three bedroom, two bath house is truly our second home in Tahoe Donner. We are proud to be able to share it with you throughout the year.

Hale Mauka can comfortably sleep eight guests. A downstairs master suite with a 42in TV is down the hall from the full kitchen. Upstairs, the 'kid's room' contains two sets of bunk beds and a pair of fat boy bean bag stools for lounging. The other upstairs room has a 42in TV and queen bed. A full living room and dining room combine to give lots of room for families to stretch out and relax after a full day enjoying the Tahoe surroundings. There is a wood stove in the living room that can heat the entire home; baseboard heaters and humidifiers are also in each room to further control the temperature.

Don't want to totally unplug while you're away? No worries -- high speed internet is included along with free WiFi for guests. Three LCD Smart TVs (55in in the living room, 42in in two bedrooms) have built-in Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime connections so you can stream videos to your heart's content. The living room TV also includes an HD cable feed so you can watch the major sports games in real time. A Mac Mini is in the loft along with an Airprint-capable printer, so you can surf the web or even get some work done if needed.

Located on Alder Creek Road, it is one of the first thoroughfares in Tahoe Donner to get plowed, providing clear access to your snow sport destinations. The Tahoe Donner Downhill ski area is 5 minutes away, as is the Alder Creek Adventure (Cross Country/Equestrian) Center. An easy jaunt down 89 takes you to Northstar, Squaw and other Tahoe destinations.

Great views of Alder Creek can be seen from the front deck. The rear deck leads to a wonderful backyard play area where kids can go downhill with the provided sleds or just roll around in the snow. You can even play horseshoes in the horseshoe pitch in the front yard.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, utensils, and dinnerware. There is also a full size washer and dryer so you can pack lightly.

High thread-count sheets, down comforters and memory foam mattresses on all beds, along with soft towels ensure that you can relax in luxury after a full day of fun.

Tahoe Donner Private Amenity Access - Important Info for Our Guests
Our home is located in Tahoe Donner, and as a short-term tenant, you have access to Tahoe Donner’s public amenities (Downhill Ski Resort, Cross Country Ski Center, Snowplay, Golf Course, Bikeworks, Equestrian Center and all restaurants) during your stay. Access to Tahoe Donner’s private amenities (Beach Club Marina, Trout Creek Recreation Center, Northwoods Pool, and the Tennis + Pickleball Center) requires a valid Short-Term Tenant Card and Daily Access Fees at the time of entry. This property includes six (6) cards for use during your stay.

One Short-Term Tenant Card is required per person, ages 3+ (per day).
Short-term tenants with valid Short-Term Tenant Cards are required to pay Daily Access Fees to access private amenities.
Blackout dates apply during select peak/holiday periods for private amenities, at which time Short-Term Tenant Cards are not eligible for private amenity access (not applicable to public amenities). The 2026 blackout dates include:

For my first time renting a BnB style cabin, i was pleasantly surprized with how thoughtful and family-fun oriented they had set everything up to be. I think it was the small things that really added up to it being a very pleasant stay. Will be back.

We had an really excellent stay. The house was clean, warm, comfortable for two families (each with two kids), and affordable. The location was very convenient for us, the kids loved sledding in the backyard every day. It was a wonderful home base for a great long weekend. Having the FireTV app on my iPhone helped a lot with managing the television.

Our host was kind and responsive. We had some issues with tech but were able to get it resolved. The amenities were ok, but had anticipated common items like shower soap and sponges and trash bags to be available. I think refreshing and updating their guest binder and directions for checking in would go a long way to make for a smoother stay for future guests.Otherwise, it was cozy, and plenty of space for all our guests. We had a good time!

Hale Mauka is as wonderful for a families as all the reviews suggest. With three teenage sons between our two families, my brother's and my family had a memorable Christmas with several feet of snow, lots of good food that was easy to prepare in the well-equipped kitchen, and many hours of board games played on the nice big dining room table. Ed and Bernadette were kind and responsive hosts. I also appreciated the details that made it all work well - ample soft towels, lots of lanterns and a wood burning stove to make it through the power outage comfortably in the big snow storm, a great house layout for two families with room for separate and together time.
