Top-tier experienceA high end property in this area
The magnificent Coulscott House is perfect for large groups of family or friends and special celebrations. In total it sleeps between fifteen and seventeen guests in eight bedrooms. Coulscott House is comprised of two glorious, attached properties on a wonderful sixteen-acre private country estate in the north Devon countryside with superb resort facilities. Guests staying in Combe Martin House enjoy access to all the resort facilities. The resort swimming pool is wonderful with smart cradle rope weave seats, day beds, changing rooms, toilets and showers. The games room offers table football, table tennis and a soft play area for little ones. The resort sits in its own pretty valley with sixteen acres of grounds sprinkled with lush lawns, gardens, sunken nature trails, ponds, meadows, an orchard, streams, an extensive kitchen garden and a greenhouse where you can pick yourselves something fresh and tasty to go with your alfresco dinner. You are welcome to bring your furry friends and enjoy the five acres of dog walking field for off lead enjoyment or a favourite local dog walk to the charming dog friendly pub, the Hunters at Heddons Valley. There are over fifty animals on the estate and children enjoy helping at feeding times. Beautiful peacocks wander around the grounds when not nesting, the free-range chickens supply eggs and cute ducks live on three ponds. There is a small herd of alpacas, four pygmy goats, sheep, super cute piglets, guinea pigs and orphan lambs in the spring for children to bottle feed. Children adore the outdoor playground with its amazing wooden pirate ship with decks, a tunnel, ship’s wheel, plank, and sand pit. The two storey wendy house is perfect for little ones with a built-in kitchen, furniture and a veranda. There is also a wooden tractor, a slide, trampoline, swings, slides and a climbing frame. You will be lucky if you see your children with all of this! Throughout the estate there are some wonderful views with lovely lounge furniture so that you can relax, captivated by the views with a sneaky bottle of chilled wine. The Lookout is one of these, also a perfect spot for early morning meditation or yoga. The huge one and half meter fire pit with benches is wonderful for sing songs and making marshmallow memories. The honesty shop stocks some wonderful goodies including delicious frozen Cook meals, barbecue packs from the local farm shop, tasty ice creams and marshmallows for toasting.

We rented both the Farmhouse and Georgian House at the beginning of July for our first complete family gathering, which comprises our three children with their respective spouses and each with their two sons ranging from 3-18 years. The families are spread over three continents so not a simple task to achieve.
The two houses are adequately integrated to make it almost transparent that it is two properties. Meals were consumed mainly in the Georgian kitchen, which was a bit of a stretch for 14, although the round table outside with parasol was also utilised at times. The Farmhouse kitchen could have been used but it was simpler to get everyone together and the adjacent games and TV rooms became the "waiting rooms" for all the children and the odd adult.
We were fortunate in booking in early July before UK schools broke up for the summer vacation, principally since the younger of our grandchildren live overseas, with different school constraints and the older two had finished their UK school exams, and we thus had little contention from the few other Coulscott guests with the wide range of the children orientated facilities.
The Couldscott facilities have something for all ages. The swimming pool was particularly beneficial for our younger grandchildren who are at an early stage in their swimming ability, nevertheless, all participated at times. The trampolining, table tennis and Wendy House were also quite an attraction. Relaxing after a visit to the beach in the hot tub was also appreciated.
One of our younger USA grandchildren was so taken with the facility, that he was keen to buy it!
There are also enough attractions in the area to keep all age groups engaged, with beaches, high sand dunes for body boarding, surfing and kite flying at Woolacombe Beach, off-shore fishing, kayaking, a dinosaur park and golf at Ilfracombe Golf Course. We went out one evening to the Black Velvet Inn for a meal and that was excellent offering a wide range of menu choices.
The hosts are very accommodating and were prompt in addressing any problems we had.
We plan to have a family reunion in 2 years’ time to bring the our family together again but it’s going to be a hard task to find an equivalent accommodation with everything Coulscott House has to offer.

We were a large group of family and friends, staying in the house and farm house and cottages. The property is very well set up with different rooms that we used for puzzles, hobbies, or reading when it rained. Wonderful kids play room for the 3-year old, pool and hot tubs much appreciated. Lovely mowed path with views of fields, amusing mix of animals including goofy alpacas, and a great base for walks along the coastal path and Exmoor. The staff were great and the facilities wonderful. A great holiday break!

Great welcome for our party of 10 adults , 3 under fives and 6 dogs. Spacious and comfortable accommodation .Alice called round soon after arrival to explain things and immediately brought bed sides and a replacement kettle when requested.
We enjoyed time in the pool with the children , the hot tub for the adults. The children’s outdoor play area was perfect for the tinies and would suit older children too , our dogs were also clearly welcome.
My adult children cooked a 4 course dinner to celebrate my birthday on one night and had all the equipment they needed provided.
We have booked again for next year!
