The room smelled horrible there was a strong damp smell

The staff were friendly and helpful after a few initial hiccups caused by the booking agent Agoda. On entering the room there was a strong smell like fish tanks which I couldn't work out but then thought it was obviously damp. The carpets looked new but there were water streak marks down the walls by the bathroom. The duvet cover and bed were clean but few stains that hadn't washed out. The lamp didn't work. The bathroom was the most disturbing with rusty chip marks where you stood, no plug, the grout was quite grutty in places, the inside of the bin was black with mould, round the back of the bath/shower taps was black with mould or maybe dirt where the cleaner hadn't detail cleaned. We went downstairs and asked to book in the restaurant. It used to have one when we last stayed years ago and was still mentioned on the website but alas, no. It no longer exists on an evening. Just for breakfast and snacks. The bar never opened while we were there all weekend, the front doors were broken so you had to use the back doors from the car park. The lift was broken but we were on the ground floor. The breakfast was nice but the plates were not hot so it went cold very fast. Overall it has really gone downhill and we wouldn't stay again I am afraid. The only saving grace was the staff were nice and they were helpful.
