Working-class part of town near a fantastic produce market. About half mile (1 km) walk to town center, which I found manageable. Community in the neighborhood was respectful and friendly despite my fractured Spanish skills.
I was looking for a room with a refrigerator. But this was not a room, it’s an apartment in a rental complex. After I booked the unit I received no communication from proprietor. So I arrived without having an apartment number and no idea how to get the key (there’s no front desk). I waited by the front gate with my suitcases frantically texting the owner asking for help. Finally a young woman met me and escorted me to an apartment that was not the “loft" I’d booked and handed me the keys. The unit I got was not as attractive as the one I'd booked. I complained to the owner. Owner said “loft” apartment had needed a repair that was now done and I could take it if I wanted. But owner sent the young woman to knock on my door the next day without giving me notice that she was coming, so I missed her. By the following day I’d already spent two nights in the inferior apartment, so I told the owner it wasn’t worthwhile to move. So I paid the higher price for the loft but didn’t get it. Not a great experience. ALSO, NO RELIABLE INTERNET inside the unit.
