Primrose Cottage

Location, very quiet with lovely views, cottage was comfortable. Lots of great scenic walks direct from the cottage. On site brewery at the Bentley Brook Brewing Company down the road in Lumsdale was well worth a visit.

The overflowing rubbish and unkept garden made a poor impression on arrival. No microwave and freezer needs attention.

Location was peaceful and quiet. Bed was extremely comfortable. Nice outdoor space (especially good for guests with a dog).

The property could do with a bit of general TLC – things like missing kitchen door knobs, a wobbly curtain holder, and bannister stood out. The bedroom curtains are very thin, letting in a lot of light early in the morning and offering limited privacy, which wasn’t ideal. It also wasn’t clear before arrival that dogs aren’t allowed upstairs. My dog usually sleeps in a crate upstairs at home, so finding this out on arrival made the first evening more stressful. This would have been helpful to know in advance when choosing the property. A bit more thought around essentials would go a long way – for a weekend stay, more than half a loo roll (2-ply!) would be appreciated, or at least a heads-up to bring your own. The shower head is quite heavy for the rail and doesn’t stay in place, which made using the shower a bit frustrating. Parking could also be explained more clearly in the check-in instructions. Once you know where it is, it’s straightforward, but arriving for the first time it’s not obvious that you need to go past the property and look back.

Really pretty location peaceful. Very cute cottage.

Not straight forward to find, sat nav took you to the area but no clear directions included so was tricky to find as further down the track a bit difficult to find. Rubbish overspilling from the bins upon arrival not a good look and unkempt garden area shared with other cottages, residents did not appear pleased to see us and felt a bit unwelcoming. Musty smell upon entering presumably due to no air or windows being open between guests. No instructions on how to use the heating/hot water although have to say when we contacted to ask received a quick response sbd was helpful. Kitchen very basic and cottage not as clean as is could be. Light switches cupboards and other high touch areas should have been cleaner lots of ingrained dirt. No microwave, freezer or iron and board. Bathroom dirty ingrained dirt and mould around it and sink plug congealed with hair and dirt, very disappointing. Stair rail lose. A real shame as a beautiful cottage with some nice touches but needs thorough cleaning and attention to detail.
